I hear that MCS physics department is small and less prestigous amoung the peers. Just worry about the placement after graduation with physics majors. Will physics with computational physics track + minor CS help for graduate school/industry jobs? Is it difficult to transfer to CIT? Thank you for response.

I have had similar thoughts on this. I would like to know if it is worth going to cmu for physics

Physics for CMU for undergraduates have been ranked around 30 in the nation, but the computational physics program is probably very good because its supplemented by the computer science curriculumm, which at CMU is top in the world. Also, I’ve heard from students that studies in cosmology in particular at CMU are either top 5 or top 10, I forget exactly. From what I heard about oppurtunities after graduating from CMU for physics, is generally not that bad. Anyways, don’t worry about it too much. Physics is one of those majors where you can easily transfer to another area of study without drastic changes because the stuff you study as physics majors applies to so many other things.

Actually those are graduate rankings.
