How about this for crazy: CE/CS major, business/engilsh minor, MBA, PhD?

I was told by a professor that it would be wise to get a PhD soon after I finish undergrad because then I could always go back and teach at a university if I ever needed a job. The only problem with that is, I've always wanted an MBA. I don't think that I should major in business (too generic and it looks too easy) but I will minor in either business or english. I have been very interested in engineering for a long time now (CE/CS to be exact, but Civil has always caught my eye) and have been planning on majoring in it (I'm a rising high school senior).

I want an MBA because if I ever were to open my own business, I don't want to be walking in the dark. I want to get to know both the product and the business part of it.

I want a PhD because really it's just nice to have later on in life (or maybe not? Any ideas?).

Is it even possible to major in CE/CS, minor in business or english, get an MBA, then a PhD? Or PhD first, MBA second?

Getting a PhD is a huge commitment. It’s not something you’d be able to get just to have in the back pocket.

It is all theoretically possible, but why are you trying to plan out the next 15 years of your life now before college orientation? You don’t have to decide on your PhD now, or your MBA. Heck, for most schools, you don’t even have to decide your major yet.

One step at a time.
