I did the math. If I spent as much money as I do right now buying groceries for myself a week for 8 months of a school year I would hardly be spending $1000. Meal plans are a rip-off. I’ve lived in my own apartment this year while working, and I’ve learned to cook and take care of my own meals. It’ll be different to depend on meal plans and dorm food. I’ll just have to see how I like it- maybe I’ll like not having to worry about grocery shopping and only having to worry about having the energy to walk to the food hall place.

Hey guys thanks for all the post and opinions!
I’m actually doing research on meal plans for a college project.
I want to reply to some of you however that think the meal plan price is okay.
Truthfully it is not. I’m sorry if I sound like a jerk for arguing this but I cannot find one student on campus that agrees that the price is reasonable. Thank you for your opinion though because what you said will help me in my paper considering I need two sides to the story.
Aramark’s food is ridiculous. ALL the same cold pizza and various FRENCH FRIES everyday! I usually go to the sandwich bar because I think that is the safest place, or the salad bar.
I’m going to post a new thread to get some opinions on what kind of food everyone likes from the Aramark dining halls thanks everyone!!

In many cases, I don’t think the price of the meal plan is ridiculous. When you purchase a meal plan, not only do you pay for the food, you pay for wasted food, the staff, the dining ware, the dining hall, the cleaning processes, etc. The meal plan certainly doesn’t work for everyone, but that doesn’t make it overpriced (in many cases - there are certainly schools where it feels more overpriced).

Didn’t realize everyone hated Aramark so much…I haven’t really had a bad experience with them except for the price. But I also have to 1)pay for for special meal plan 2) get special dining hall. Now I pay $2500 per semester for unlimited meals and $100 flex spend. Next year I’ll pay $1500 per semester for 150 meals and $350 flex spend. It’s expensive but what can you do?

What gets me is, the university S is attending this fall requires all freshmen to purchase unlimited meal plans, and I know he’s not going to each every single meal in the dining hall.
