How accepting are people at Dartmouth?

1) how easy is it for people to fit in?

2) are people accepting of different opinions and lifestyle in general?

3) what is the gay/lesbian scene like?

any/all comments welcome :D

Dartmouth has to be one of the most open and friendly communities of any selective school in the country. Virtually everyone is accepted here--yes, even conservatives to a degree! There is very little, if any, friction between different "groups" on campus; for example, religious groups and the Dartmouth Rainbow Alliance seem to coexist peacefully. Sometimes political debates and campus editorial pages can get a bit heated, but you'll find that at any school.

Dartmouth students get along very well- and most people are friendly to everyone. But its "accepting" not 100% embracing. The Jock element can be pervasive in my opinion, but many tend to ignore it. Still exists though. I think this is my one blow against Dartmouth - I can imagine a place like Brown being more "universally welcoming."

Thanks for the response :) ... anyone else have more helpful insights?

I would check out this website and email some of the students that it highlights to find out more about the gay/lesbian "scene" at Dartmouth.
