I just got a copy of the Barron's Chemistry SAT II book and I'm wondering how accurate are the tests compared to the actual thing?

Barron’s is harder than the actual test almost all the time. Usually, high 600s in Barron’s is about an 800 on the real test.

Thank you, I got about a 670!

Don’t worry about it then :] just study hard and don’t slack.

As I keep reviewing with Barron’s my scores on the practice tests keep getting lower for some reason, still in the 700-800 range though so yay!

A 670 on Barron’s is CERTAINLY not an 800 on the actual test. I would say a 760-780 is an 800 on the actual test. I took a bunch of practice tests and I managed to get an 800 on the real test, but I usually scored in that range.

That’s okay I guess, I’m aiming for anything above a 700. And seeing that I hadn’t really started studying yet and that was my score, I think I’m in good shape.

For US I took a Barrons test and got a 590 and the next day I got a 770 on the real thing. Barrons is sooooooooooo hard xD

Somebody I know claims that week or two of studying with Barrons is enough to score 800 on actual SAT Chem test…This is not certainly true, vright?

Barron’s is known to be atrociously difficult though. It varies from person to person, but generally, people score much better on the real test.

Mansu007, you have to consider a lot of factors there. How much prior knowledge does that person have? Is she/he good at studying? At thinking outside the box? Motivation levels? Stuff like that.

The Princeton SAT chem book is more like the real thing. The Barron’s one is much harder than it needs to be, but it prepares you well for the test. Plus, the test scoring chart on Barron’s is inaccurate. It indicates that missing 7 or so is an 800, but you can only miss about 3 on the real thing for a perfect score.

I used Barron’s for around 3 weeks and made an 800 on the collegeboard test (but I was also simultaneously taking Ap Chem). On the Barron’s tests, I would get a mid-700 score.

Yeah, the score charts for Barron’s are really unaccurate.
