For reference, my family makes about $150k a year and according to NYU’s NPC, if I were to live off-campus on my own (which it’s possible for me to do for little to no cost), I would receive around $45k in grants and aid (nothing mentioned about loans) a year, making tuition around $28k (which I can almost afford!). Does this sound accurate? It doesn’t go nearly as in depth as any other school’s calculator I’ve used and I’ve pretty much heard nothing but bad things about NYU’s financial aid so I’m very reluctant to trust it.
From our own experience, if your family have significant assets, a 529 plan, or rental income (not asked about in the online NPC) it can be wildly wrong. Many complain about NYU’s financial aid, a lucky few get fabulous packages. Unfortunately it seems you really don’t know properly what you’ll get unless and until you actually get an offer.
Completely off - they request too little info for it to be meaningful. Generally their financial aid is terrible, unless you’re a NYC HEOP or super lucky. If they expect parents to toe loans, step away - it’s one of the worst for loan burden.
If you like NYC, apply to Barnard, Fordham, Manhattan college. If you live in NYC Baruch.
