just wondering.

it's not (Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.)

Seems they are too liberal with "match schools"...they have listed schools as "matches" that are 150 pts higher (average) in SAT scores than my daugters (with her gpa also below their average)

Counselor-O-Matic only works well if you use it with College Board's Match Maker. Find schools on college board, and then verify where their fit for you, mainl the type of school, it's generally not that off in saying if a school is a match, reach, or safety.

My experience with Counserlor-O-Matic was crap. It listed schools that were ultra-safeties as matches.

Counselor-O-Matic is good for suggestions of colleges to investigate, but it can vary quite a bit from year to year in its reach/match/safety categories.

We've used Counselor O Matic (for fun) with both kiddos. In both cases, the kiddos had chosen at least several schools that met their criteria. Surprisingly, NONE of them appeared on the choices generated by Counselor O matic. My son's search was narrowed to 900 colleges (some narrowing!!) and when he changed the setting to indicate he wanted to be able to access the schools web site from anywhere, it went to ZERO (which we KNOW is not accurate).

I've had bad experiences with counselor-O-matic

One example is when they put both Princeton and Goucher in my match section... I could shave 150 points off of my SAT and still be in the top 25% of goucher's applicant pool. In fact, all of my stats are somewhere within the top 10%

It doesn't make much sense sometimes. For example, said I didn't want a rural school at all. What school was 2nd on my list of reaches? Dartmouth.

Counselor-O-Matic was tried by me for my daughter. It suggested some schools that either didn't have the major we desired or had the major, but it was a mediocre program. In addition, the suggest reach schools, at least for my daughter's SATs and GPAs were more than a reach in my opinion. Thus, you have to take Counselor- O Matic as a nice toy that can sometimes give some decent suggestions.
