How accurate is Ratemyprofessors?

Yeah, I rate all of mine too and I think it would be great if people did that more.

But I do find RMP pretty accurate most of the time, and I bet you'll be happy with your professor (but don't hold me to it!).

I don't find it helpful. I suspect that I don't like the same attributes my classmates do.

Sometimes, a professor will have decent ratings, but students leave out minor details such as heavy accents and quality of teaching. This is when there are less than 10 ratings generally. I always rate every professor and try to be as detailed and informative as possible.

I find it rather helpful. However, take immature comments with a grain of salt. Statements such as "ah this professor sucks, lowered my GPA," and etc, definitely shows that the student is bitter about the class. This can sometimes be the student's fault, not always the teacher's (lackluster performance, slacking off, etc)

Well if there is an overwhelming amount of negative, or positive comments, I'd say its pretty accurate.

I have around 60 credits and ratemyprofessor has been right every single time. If the ratings are horrible, RUN.. I didn't listen to the ratings once.. haha let's just say I'll always trust it now.

One of the teachers I had was rated badly. They thought his tests were insanely hard. I thought they were pretty easy. I got an A in the class. So I'm not sure if all the rating are accurate, but it wouldn't hurt to always go for the teachers with good ratings.

I've used it during the last 3 or 4 years and found it to be pretty accurate. You just have to see what the general consensus is about the professor based on lots of rankings, because there is always some student who just slams any teacher that actually requires them to think or do work. I would def recommend using it when scheduling classes.

I think you get better information from pickaprof.com. Yes, they do charge, but you get real stats about grade distribution.

I agree with what other posters have stated about using the comments on RMP rather than just looking at the rating numbers. I read horrible reviews about a professor there once and decided to take the class anyway. It was a big mistake and I dropped it. You can learn a lot from the comments.

I even looked at them before choosing a college. There was one school with horrible ratings for nearly every professor in a department. How bad is that??
Friend just changed early airline reservations based on a comment about a prof giving a big test the day before Thanksgiving.

RMP.com has been really helpful to me, esp when I had a choice of 3-6 professors for some classes. I rate when I finish the class, just to help others out.

pick-a-prof cost money though :\

unless you have a login account for it that you could share :) that would be sweetsauce hahaha.

The few times I've used it, I've found it to be pretty spot on. Usually a lot of the bad ratings for generally well rated professors are from people who did poorly in the class (for whatever reason).
