HOw accurate is this?

Predictor Law School Predictor

law school predictor. enter your stat into the chart then it will estimate ur chance. is it precise? any insight?

I’ve seen this link plenty of times on this board and it has never been discredited so I would say it’s fairly valid.

Okay so it appears one need to get 170+ LSAT and 3.8+ GPA to get in NYU…
I doubt if I could get cumulative 3.8 eventually…

170/3.8 sounds a little low for NYU. You’d need a higher LSAT but could probably afford a lower GPA.

Lots of bells and whistles- but interesting format with lots of info.

So using the predictor with stats of 170/3.8- NYU decision would fall into “consider” range which corresponds to a 38% to 62% chance of admittance based on website info. So it’s a fancy way of saying your chances of admittance to NYU is-- MAYBE.

looks like if your gpa and LSAT fall at or above the 25% range, your chances will be noted as “Consider”. If your stats are at or above the 75% range, your decision will be noted as Admit.
Not earth shattering info- but none the less another “fun” tool to use.

There is a multi page discussion on this on TLS. Seems like new and improved version was launched just a few weeks ago.

Yeah 170+ for NYU is definitely needed but GPA could be much lower.

You can get into CCN with 3.5+ if you have a good LSAT, it doesn’t work as strongly the other way.

Marny: have you seen any good explanation for what the algorithm does?

bdm- even if I saw a good explaination for what the algorithm did, the explaination would completely go over my head.
The response from TLS posters seems pretty positive towards this law school predictor site. As I don’t see too much bashing, I’ll assume that those who understand these formulas, algorithms etc. are giving it their seal of approval.

I find these “predictors” interesting and may give someone a starting point as to what schools to consider, but more than that, I would hate for someone to rely too heavily on this info.

Maybe because I am not going through the admission process, I don’t like the idea of my kid or someone else on these boards NOT applying to a “reach” school because a predictor says they have little chance of getting in.

One needs to be practical and have a bunch of good match schools and safety schools to apply to- but once you cover your bases, then you might as well send an application or two to your dream school, even if the predictor says “deny”.

Yeah, something along the lines of this:

“You have 10% odds if you apply, but that goes down to 0% if you don’t.”
