I'm just curious to see how accurate these boards are, for those who got in EA/ED or even for those freshman now that are still posting.

Dude there are alot of people on here that have no clue what they are talking about. But also alot of people who are very knowledgeable. Just analyze the information offered by people and take it with a grain of salt, if it sounds overly-simplistic, it's probably wrong. I really suggest (although the site is currently down) www.princetonreview.com. they have counselor-o-matic where you input 8 pages of information about yourself and it generates a list of good matches, reaches, and safeties. Also, whenever you look at a college on princetonreview, you can click "what are my chances?" and it will tell you what category that specific college falls into according to your academic credentials.

Ohh! This is an interesting forum.

Most people thought I was a long shot for Stanford EA. But I got in! I distinctly remember "only one HYPS if you're lucky ... " However, I think I got very lucky. On the other hand, people were more optimistic about my friend and Yale and she got deferred.

the problem with "admission chances" is that people do not know how essays and rec letters turn out. Both are EXTREMELY important at super-competitive schools, and can make a a 4.0 / 1600 / class president be rejected while a 3.8 / 1400 / avg ECs get in!

As for my chances, the majority predicted that I'll have a realistic chance at Stanford EA, and I was accepted.

for me, cc is so accurate, i believe everything ppl tell me.
they told me i shouldn't try stanford i wouldn't listen and got rejected :(
ppl here are wise and helpful!! we should listen to them

i think they are helpful on some area, but then again i alwyas think that no one in here knows what the hell those admissions people are thinking unless they're there. but most of it is accurate, because they critique u based on what u give htem-raw stats- and admissions is much more than just raw stats. as for me, id idnt ask for my chances, but by lookin at everyone else who applied to JOhns hopkins ED with me, i felt i had a slim chance. but the guy who EVERYONE was soooooooooooo sure would get in was one of the few from this forum that got deferred, whereas almost everyone else who most people said "slim chance" got in. so i guess its up to you to know, i dont believe in having other people give me their humble opinion about my future, so id say trust yourself, ur skill, and ur instinct more than wat others say.

oh and one person did give me my chances. overall, he based his opinion on my research, but then he said if i get higher SATs, acts, great SAT IIs, i have a "pretty good chance". i never took any of those again, and i never even handed in my SAT IIs but i got in...so yea im kinda skeptical about this forum on chances.

how much did u get in ur sat 2s ?

Counselor-o-Matic on Princeton Review is not that good of a predicter. I know that all the schools they said were reaches for me were matches.

they said i'd get into stanford EA, and I did. =)

I think that some people here are pretty knowledgeable about chances, because they have experience, and then there are others who just post in the "what are my chances at..." post so that they can get the satisfaction of seeing something they wrote posted, i.e. just for the hell of it.

And considering how quixotic and confusing the whole admissions process is, and how hard it is to get into the minds of an admissions officer, no one here except a certified admissions officer actually has good reliability. After all most of us are just anxious teenagers caught up in this college craze and we're stressed, confused, and tired.

hey don't dis the princetonreview counselor o matic. It was fairly good in stating whether i standed a chance or not.
