How am I doing? (Chance a HS Sophomore)

I am currently a HS Sophomore, and want to know what I can improve on.
I hope to get into some of the top schools, though I am not sure where I am going to apply yet.
Let me know what you think, thanks!

Stats:
- Ethnicity: Hispanic/White/Asian (though I will apply as Hispanic)
- Gender: Male
- Income Bracket: Upper Middle
- High School: California Public School
- Major: Engineering
I am not sure exactly what type of engineering, but I am leaning towards Biomedical Engineering.
- Current Class Rank: 25 out of 694
- Current GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.4 W (Freshman Year: 4.0 UW, 4.0 W) - Straight A's both years.
- PSAT: 183 (When I take it as a Junior I am going to study a lot.)

Classes:
- Freshmen Year (complete): Choir, Track & Cross Country, Spanish 1, Honors Biology, Algebra 2, Honors English 9 (Health over the summer)
- Sophomore Year (in progress): Choir, Track & Cross Country, Honors Chemistry, Pre-Calculus, Honors English 10, AP European History (Spanish 2 over the summer)
- Junior Year (planned): Choir, AP Chemistry, AP Physics B, AP Calculus AB, Honors English 11 (this class takes the AP Languages test), AP US History (Spanish 3 over the summer)
- Senior Year (planned): Choir, AP Biology, AP Calculus BC, AP Literature, AP Government/AP Economics (semester classes), Spanish 4

EC'S: (planned)
- 4 Years in Choir (our school is ranked among the top 5 in the nation)
- 2 Years in Track (F/S)
- 2 Years in Cross Country (F/S)
- 4 Years in Key Club
- 4 Years in California Scholastic Federation
- 2 Years in National Honors Society
- Volunteering at a Dog Rescue (started this year)

Leadership:
- Secretary in Choir (I hope to get leadership roles in choir the next 2 years as well.)
- Executive Board Member in Key Club (For my Junior year, and hopefully my Senior year too.)
- I am also hoping to get a leadership role in NHS and/or CSF, and at least one internship and/or summer program to get some experience in engineering and science.

depends what schools your thinking of applying too.

I’m not sure where I want to apply yet, but I am hoping to get into a top engineering school. I am wondering how I can improve my chances of getting into a good school.

Improve that SAT score a lot, also probably should take subject tests (depending on the schools you may need them). Top engineering schools are very competitive.

It would also help if you developed a less generic EC.

Yeah, I definitely plan on improving my PSAT (and eventually SAT) score. I also plan on taking subject tests. My EC’s could use some work. That is what I think I am most worried about.

Thanks for the help!

work on ECs - a lot.
Do really well on SAT.
If your thinking engineering it would help if you took science/math subject tests and scored really high on them.

If you’re applying as Hispanic, then your chances are GREAT as long as you keep your grades up and stay in AP classes and strong extracurricular activities. You probably won’t need any extra factors as long as you are applying as Hispanic just because there aren’t many Hispanics aspiring to be engineers (no offense I hope)

Does any have specific suggestions for a better EC?

what are you interested in? What is your intended major? Do ECs in relation to that.

If you have science team at school, do science fair. Not sure if you applied to COSMOS.
Above all, do not let that GPA slip :). Looking at results thread, I am amazed at the ECs of some of the folks but GPAs cost them admission. However a couple B’s here and there is ok…but in general GPA should be the #1 priority. Also take your Subject tests SATs for the courses you are completing this year.

Also I see Spanish 2 over summer…? Are you self studying or taking community college? i wouldn’t underestimate taking foreign language over summer…but if it is a good program, it will be fine…(I just haven;t found any :))
