Thanks for the compliment, Righteous_Vigilante.

theoneo, if you think YOUR governor doesnt give a crap about education, come see the Governator -_-

Or the Kansas person that legislated Creationism...never mind the Japanese Monbusho minister, despite repeated pleas to reform English education because the students' acquisition of the language is terrible due to the grammar-based style so commonly tested on entrance tests, has now made it mandatory for first graders to learn English grammar, causing some to be unable to speak Japanese without an English accent.

Don't try to push through college based on one or two of your strengths. They know you are good at math, evident by you AMC, AIME, and SAT scores. However, from a personal note, a 130+ on AMC12 in 8th and 9th grade did not really help much. If you are serious about math look for more opportunities (ARML, USAMO, IMO, PROMYS, etc). My two cents on that.

Well, math really isn't my main strength (science is), but it's my secondary passion. I mean, I care more about USABO than I do about USAMO though I will still continue to pursue my interest in math.

Go ahead and post your stats, shravas. I wanna know how other freshmen are doing.

Righteous_Vigilante has posted hers on [thread=168108]this[/thread] thread.

That's awesome, righteousvigilante.

Tons of peeps take Latin. Unless you have a intense Latin program and get a Classics Diploma, latin is no good either.

Top languages taken

Spanish
French
latin
German

Yeah. THey would. I'm guessing. They like out of the ordinary things. Je pense.

Yeah, I guess that's good cuz, apart from my passion for languages, I'm just an ordinary-above average candidate right?

Just do whatever you want. Take things out of the ordinary. Make yourself you and make yourself stand out. ^^

Have you considered doing science research and getting the coveted RSI, Intel, ISEF, or Westinghouse recognition? Start early.

Of course--the problem is finding a professor though.

i have similar stats (freshman)... must find internship or research opportunity!...

"Go ahead and post your stats, shravas. I wanna know how other freshmen are doing."

So this is going to my excuse for bragging. Actually, they're not really that extraordinary. But I guess, here they are -

I'm taking
Algebra 2 Honors
English 9 Honors
Science 9 Honors
American History Honors
Spanish 2 (no Honors offered)
Health/Journalism (one each semester)
Orchestra

A's in everything except for Spanish.

I think my rank is like around 10/600 or somewhere around there. I don't really know.

I got about a 195 (61 CR, 60 W, 74 M) on the PSAT

I'm in just my School Orchestra right now, but I'm thinking of doing more with the violin next year.
I'm in Boy Scouts, currently a Star Scout (2 away from eagle).
I did the AMC 12, got a 112, and the AIME, and got a 7 (grr, so close to making USAMO)
I'm in the USACO (programming) contests right now, and I'm in the Silver division, which usually has around 30 people from the US (The only higher division is Gold which also usually has 30 people from the US). I usually get one of the top 8 or higher scores on the contests.

Yea, my school doesn't have too many interesting clubs, but I'm thinking of maybe starting a math team or something similar too.

So yea, that's it. Of course, I'm just a freshman, so this might all change in just a couple of years.

^whats so special about that?

That AMC/AIME score's awesome, shravas!

Maybe I can try track and field, art, or music. My piano teacher (who's well-known) says I play at a college level, but it's gonna be kinda hard to shine as a pianist since there are still probably hundreds better than me. Maybe accordion since not many people really know how to play it?

^wow, why dont you just do/play whatever you are interested in. Stop worrying whether others do it or its competetive. You do EC's out of your own self-interest and passion, not to get awards so you can impress colleges.

the saddest thing about this, is that people like you probably do get into good colleges.

im sorry, but i dislike people like you. =/
