Chance me I will chance back.

dunno about brandeis, but gwu is a far cry. i’d say you would need 4.0s as well as a 22/2300 on the SAT for it to be possible.

=( oh well
bump
Chance me and ill chance you back (of course link me)

i’m already at a college. i’m just giving some people help.

I disagree with Fenris. According to the CollegeBoard, the middle 50% of GWU students have SAT scores of only 1790-2060. Of course, you want to score your highest, but it is a grand exaggeration to state that an SAT score of 2200-2300 is required for admission.

Josh, you are still early in your high school experience so there is no reason for you to feel like GWU is unattainable. Overall, you are on the right track. Your Freshman year GPA will hurt you, but as long as you improve your grades and can explain the bad beginning then you should be fine. Make sure you challenge yourself academically, either through AP/IB or honors courses.

Your clubs are decent. I would suggest going for a position in FBLA. I am a DECA state officer and it is a very strong position to have. Of course, I’d be happier if you joined DECA and got a position there. ;] But, from an objective viewpoint, being an officer in either organization will strengthen your application - whether on the school/chapter or the state level is up to you.

Track is good.

As for your background, it is also good. First-generation should help you a little with admittance and can help a lot with financial assistance, depending on which scholarships you apply for. Your heritage will not necessarily strengthen your application; however, your ability to speak multiple languages will.

You are also doing well with showing interest in the school.

Anyway, that’s my evaluation for now. You are doing pretty well if you want to get into GWU. Just make sure to boost your academics a little. Also, even if you don’t want to become a writer, work on your writing a little bit as I said in my other post, since writing is an important form of communication and your application essay can make or break your admittance.

Kayley, because I didn’t say that bringing it up would “be possible” right? First off, you’re only commenting on the SAT score; with that said, the bottom half of that “50%” rarely get in. 1760 is extremely low for a decent school. Coupled with his low GPA, yeah, I don’t think he has a legitimate shot at the moment. Also, since when did collegeboard start giving out admission statistics?

I can understand 1760 being low…but you definitely don’t need a 2200/2300.

Yes, the CollegeBoard gives statistics. And if you don’t trust the CollegeBoard, here are statistics from the actual GWU website:
[Freshman Class Profile - The George Washington University](http://www.gwu.edu/apply/undergraduateadmissions/beforeapplying/freshmanclassprofile)

Mid 50 percent SAT range: 1870-2090

These are the statistics of admitted students. Not just applicants. So yeah, you can get in with 1870; at least one person did. And even applicants with SAT scores under 1870 got in.

I wasn’t telling him to get 1760. I was just saying that he could comfortably get in with, say, a 1990 rather than a 2300 (depending on his other activities.) I stand by my comment that a person does not need a 22/2300 SAT to get into GWU.

What do you mean I’m “only commenting on the SAT score”? Did you read the rest of my post? My only comment to you was about the SAT score, because that’s pretty much the only thing you posted about (aside from GPA, but I agree with your GPA observation.) The rest of that post contains a thorough and evaluative review of his chances of getting into GWU. And I say that he has a good chance. He’s only a Sophomore; he has plenty of time to get his grades up and work a bit more on his ECs.

I understand what you mean by “at the moment.” I was talking about his chance in two years, not “at the moment.” He’s not applying to GWU “at the moment.” I gave him advice for how he can improve his portfolio. Besides, I’m fine with you saying that he needs to get his GPA up. He does. The only thing I disagree with is your comment that a person needs a 22/2300 SAT to get in, because that is simply not true.

EDIT: Oh, and I’m not sure when CollegeBoard started giving out statistics (I’ve used CB for the past year and they’ve had these statistics the entire time), but you can view the SAT scores of GWU first-year students here.

Based on the CB info, I’d like to clarify: when you say “the bottom half of that “50%” rarely get in,” you are incorrect, because the bottom half of that 50% is the bottom half of a percentage of students who have already been admitted. So yes, they all got in. And even if you only trust the GWU info, it’s apparent that applicants do not need an SAT score of 2200 to be admitted. Once again, I’m not saying he should aim for a 1760, but he shouldn’t be discouraged if he gets a 1980 or 1990 instead of a 2200.

If you would like to keep arguing about this, please provide some evidence for your side, as I have provided plenty for mine. It’s been a while since I’ve had a healthy debate. Our debate team was canceled this year, unfortunately. :(

It would not let me edit my post anymore…I wanted to remove the bottom part. I would rather not debate about this. There is no point. I have already provided my evidence and have not seen anything to the contrary, so it would be a waste of time to keep on with the issue. Remember Fenris: the “chance me” forum is a matter of opinion. We are not admissions officers. We cannot definitively tell a person “yes, you will get in” or “no, you will not get in.” I’ve provided plenty of evidence in support of my opinion and, frankly, I don’t understand why you are trying so hard to go against it. I have my view and you have yours. We can agree to disagree. Besides, our views are really not that different. It’s just that you are rating him based on what he is now and I am rating him based on what he can be by the time he applies.

I actually didn’t know collegeboard provided statistics. it was a legitimate question. I always went to the college website to get them. i just didn’t see anything on your post with the specific words “GPA” except for his freshman year. In reality the GPA he has now are still relatively low.

Either way, i’m not saying it’s impossible, but to actually have a good chance at GWU, i’d recommend at least a 1900-2000. 2200 is a magic number for me that’s all. the GPA absolutely -needs- to go up though

I would be careful. Your gpa is average. You might not even get into GMU.

I have a friend who was rejected to GMU with a 3.3 GPA UW, in-state.
