I am looking to apply for Fall 2009-2010. The school itself it about 52k overall. I only have a 3.198 GPA now, but I think I can get it to a 3.4ish GPA. I know I prob. won't get full AEP, but I need scholarships and don't want too much loans. It's also harder to find outside scholarships, since I won't be a junior nor senior in high school. I just wanted advice, how can I get these outside scholarships and don't see how I'll afford it? I'm still going to apply and see what happens though. My family is middle class, but my parents have my two siblings (one whom will be a junior and the other not much younger) and plus my mom is due to have a baby around XMAS time. I really want to go there, but don't see how it's going to happen.

bump???

You should post this on the Financial Aid forum. Sorry I can’t help. GL. :]

Thanks Rachael, I appreciate it I will.

your GPA and struggle to pay for college indicate that you should finish HS.

your school obviously has the capacity to challenge you, and you aren’t ready to pay for college yet.

It really depends on if I get AEP. As I said before, people don’t go to Simon’s Rock because the academics at high school challenge them. People go for a head start and some go for not fitting in socially and are over high school. It’s not like other early entrance programs. I have heard people getting with a GPA below a 3.0 with $30,000 in scholarships. Also, my brother is a year older and is looking to go to Johnson and Wales which is 30k a year. Money will always be a huge deal. My family can pay about 10k-20k in tuition before my mother was pregnant. This was with one kid going to college too. I also have another brother who is 3 years younger, so it will always be an obstacle.

Kids go to Simon’s Rock because high school classes don’t challenge them; they are ready for college courses. They are “over” high school because high school doesn’t challenge them.

I have yet to meet a Rocker who goes for a “head start” on college. These kids go to college early because high school doesn’t fit their needs.

If you want a head start on college, take all AP courses and get 5s on the exams next year, and the following year, take college courses at a nearby college part-time in conjunction with high school.

When I have talked to other Rockers they did not say this AT ALL. I want a head start in life, I don’t want to be waste my time in high school. They said some just go because they do not fit in socially. I have done a lot of research on this school and I’m pretty sure you have too. I am ready for college work and an liberal arts education. I don’t want to go the normal way and I don’t want to take all AP courses.

I would also like to mention that people may go to the Rock for many reasons. There isn’t just one, lol.
