Hi, so I'm a current sophomore and I'm really stressing over college. I would like to go to Princeton University, and I have wanted to do this for a while. I have visited numerous times, because my cousin attends there (she is now in her senior year), and I am just in love with it. But the thing is that I don't think I will get in. Right now my average is an UW 93, but after this semester it will probably be a UW 92. I did the math and I can bring it up to a UW94, maybe even a UW95 with a lot of work, but it is possible.
My question is, is a 92 enough? I believe this is an A-. And I know that colleges look at other things as well, including SATs, Extracurriculars, so on and so forth.
But I just wonder if I'm setting my hopes up for them to be put down. Is my grade too low for them ever to even look past it?
This really bothers me because I really have no idea if I have an inkling of a chance, and it is really stressing me out.
Also, another question: is the interview part of the application given after they screen people. Or do all applicants get an interview?
Some other things about me:
I'm an African American female attending the top high school in New York

92 won’t do. Even if you brought it up to a 95, you wouldn’t have a chance. To get into Princeton, you need to be the best of the best of the best. You need 99+.

You’ll probably have to settle for community college. Sorry.

ThingsAreNew, they’re not going to throw you out automatically for a 92. Obviously something higher is going to work in your favor, so definitely work on bringing it up the next two years, but it’s not the end of the world.

The interviews are offered to as many people as they can get, it seems. Getting an interview doesn’t necessarily mean you passed a preliminary screen or anything. But it won’t hurt you if you don’t get one.

A friend from my school got into Princeton with a 3.7 GPA (African-American, with a brother at Princeton if that matters). A 92/100 is about a 3.8, so it’s definitely not impossible for you to get in. Of course, class rank is taken into account: some schools have such inflated GPA that a 92 could be 25th percentile while a 92 could easily be top 5% at others. Princeton looks at context in these situations.
