Hi! I’m applying for fall transfer to Vassar for the F2020 semester. I am a male, freshman, theatre arts/drama major who currently attends a community college local to Vassar that does have a relationship with them.
I have friends who go to the school and I have visited frequently over the last few years. I have fallen in love with the school, not only for the feel of campus but for the learning environment it provides. It is my dream school, my #1 to the highest degree, I want it more than anything. So my question is, what are my odds looking like? Do you, the CC crowd, believe I have any shot?
My time in high school was plagued with mental instability/unfitness and unfortunately, even though my New York state regents grades are great (four over 95%), my high school GPA is not exactly where I’d want it to be. Specifically, it is a 2.8. However, I graduated with an advanced regents diploma and an honors diploma in the IT program as I received a special award/internship for my success in the program. I participated in many extracurriculars including 4 choirs and a musical simultaneously my senior year (when my mental health was at its worst). I graduated in 2017.
My SAT score is a 1230, and was taken during my Junior year of high school in 2016.
I took 2 years off from school to work in retail and gain life experience while getting myself stable mentally, and started college for the first time at 19 in the F2019 semester. (I am currently in my second semester).
In college I have a 4.0 GPA, made the dean’s list, am newly invited/accepted to the honors program at my school (which is a well known and respected honors program), act in plays/extracurriculars, and have stellar recommendations from professors. I will at all costs do just as well this semester. I also have been working with peers and my professors to make sure my essays are personal, unique, and attention grabbing so that I can stand out.
Sorry for the essay, but this means more to me than I can express. But like I said, with all this being said, in your opinion(s) how am I looking? What are your thoughts? Will they weight my collegiate success more heavily because high school is years behind me?
