Really would like to get accepted to NYU out of all the colleges listed above

looking good, but make sure your test scores are good to compete with columbia. I think youre fine for nyu, but your gpa is around average, but could be better. shoot for higher ap scores and 1400+ to 32+ and 700+ for test scores. Just my advice to compete.

Is 32+ and 1400+ a necessity for NYU?

Not necessarily since the average NYU for ACT is 28-32 but you want to be shooting to be at the 32+ range to help your application.

It depends what what department you will apply to at NYU. If you aren’t applying to Stern (business school) or Tisch (theater and arts) than your application looks good! These two departments are notoriously difficult to get into

So basically, if I want to shoot for Columbia, then I should consider getting 32+. How about if I just want to focus honing in on NYU? Is my application sound if I can just get a 28 or above?

A score that is in the bottom of the middle 50% will not help you much. You should be aiming high so you can maximize your chances. (32+)

Also, for Columbia (and any of the Ivies/other similar schools), you would need a 33 at bare minimum.
