How am I so far?

Hi, I am kinda new here. I go to an okay school in Santa Clara, California. Uh. . . here are my stats:

Freshman Yr:
4.0 GPA
3 / 489

Courses (Highest possible courses):
Algebra 2 Honors = A
French 1 = A
English 9 Honors = A
Art = A
P.E = A
Biology = A

Note: I was ranked 3rd because two freshman took Algebra 2 over the summer and landed in Trig Honors which is weighted)
However, by next year, I look forward to become first

Courses supposed to be taken next year:
Trig Honors
French 2
English 10 Honors
AP Comp Sci A
Chemestry Honors
AP European History
P.E

EC's (I am always going to stick to these activities till I go to college):
- Religious Activities: A half priest in Livermore Temple / Learn religious hymns passed down 10,000 years ago / Wrote articles in a religious magazine that is popular in India (It's called The Walk)

Chess: Founder of chess club in school / Member of the United States Chess Federation / Have entered and won regional chess tournaments

The Computer Building Club: I plan to join this in school next year when I become a Sophomore.

So . . . how am I doing so far? Any comments? I prefer comments on how to recieve ANY OTHER outstanding awards that are as prestigious as National Merit and National Honors Society.

Oh, and I volunteer at a Science Museum called "The Tech"

But I am worried that this is the only science / math activity I do. Does MIT care? Do they give more importance to math and science related activities as opposed to non-science/math activity?

Stop worrying about college apps...you're a sophmore....

And GO VANGUARD!

you're good, mang.

Just a thought, but if you already volunteer at The Tech Museum, and it interests you, you could become much more active there. Have you considered putting together a team at school to do The Tech Challenge this coming year? Or you could get involved in judging or running the competition next spring. It's a great combination of the science highlighted at The Tech Museum, and teamwork and engineering. I know several teams of students who went on from participation in The Tech Challenge to get involved in FIRST Robotics. Applying your knowledge as part of a team activity like these would be a positive thing for schools like MIT which stress these qualities in their mission statements. (And besides, The Tech Challenge and FIRST are fun, and very positive experiences.)

I think is great that you are already volunteering at the Tech Museum, try to continue that ( a lot of people actually volunteer there, but if you continue all 4 years, i think its great). However, it's only really volunteering since you won't be that involved the the science and tech stuff. I agree with mootmom, so you actually try enter some events and actually do the thing you are passionate about, instead of just volunteering for it.
You have plenty of time. Just do your best really, if your best wasn't good enough, then you can't really do anything about it, but if you didn't do your best, then you might end up hating yourself forever (i regret not thinking about SAT earlier , kept putting it off) >.<
I am going to be a senior in hs, just want to say that when you pick classes for junior and senior year, instead of picking all the APs you should focus more on your passion. If you take too many APs, its not really fun and you'll be stuck with them for the whole year( however i don't know how hard APs are in your school, i go to the FUHSD , i am in the San Jose area).
Take hard classes you'll like, and enjoy them! Once youare done with the math classes at your school, you can always go to community college for classes.
Get involved in EC, because MIT likes hands-on stuff too!!
The starting a team idea by mootmom is really great, however it can be stressful (if you start a FIRST team)

Thanks guys. I think I will participate in the Tech Challenge. However, besides that, my school has no science / math activity other than the computer building club. Does that put me at a disadvantage?

^ No, that'll actually make it look even better that you went out and sought other opportunities. At least, that's what it did for me! Hohoho.

maybe you can start a math club or science club!!

Thanks guys . . . uh. how many people actually got into MIT as an Undergrad?

I mean people here, in this thread

I did back in 2005.

.... religious hymns passed down 10,000 years ago ....

~7995 B.C :confused:

Oh, me! Me! 2011, woo hoo!

yeah, 10,000 years ago (Im hindu, so you can't prove me wrong) Hinduism is like so old.

My son and four of the five other kids who were on his Tech Challenge team (and later his FIRST Robotics team) were accepted to MIT two years ago.

Question for mootmom

did he win in the THE The Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics competition? Did he enter science fairs (Intel ISEF?)

You should do some research about the background of the competitions before asking if someone won the FIRST robotics competition
