When the dorms open on August 28th, how am I supposed to get inside my dorm? Where do I go to get a key?

When you arrive that morning and wade your way through the huge crowd of people, you will see a table set up with people signing you in and giving you your key. You'll wait in line to get your key, wait in line to unload your car, wait in line for one of those rolling bins, then wait in line for the elevator. So bring lots of patience that day, you'll need it. Move-in day is hell and if the weather stays ungodly hot like it's been all summer, it will be an even worse hell than usual. :)

do most people go up in 1 trip with those bins? How big are they?

Most people don't even use the bins because it takes so long waiting for one. Best thing is to unload your car onto the sidewalk, have your parent go park it. Then leave one person with your belongings while the rest of you carry your stuff up.

My daughter is a freshman at Brittany. Where and when can we first show up to get on line to get her a key? She wants to get in early, after bad experiences in prep school (not everyone is nice about sharing!).
We are local, so early is no problem. We plan to be there early, if we can get in then. (Is Saturday an option?).
She has been told that they do this alphabetically..is that true? If so, we are at the end of the alphabet! :-(

No doubt move in day is long but it is also a lot of fun. As for moving in Saturday that is pretty much impossible. The only people that are allowed to move in early are in season athletes and NYU students who have volunteered to help with move in. As for when you can move in, the alphabetical order is somewhat suggested. I can't imagine them saying no but I suppose that they could.

A-L move in between 9 AM and 1PM, M-Z move in 1-5PM. in third avenue north anyway, didn't anyone tell you

nj1grl, those are only suggestions. Most people do not listen to that. You can show up whenever you want. They're not going to turn you away if you don't strictly adhere to those suggested times.

One of my friends suggested that i actually go earlier, around 8-8:30. She did that last year, and they let her in, no problems.

Where are we 'spose to stop our cars (I'll be coming in a cab, and will stay in UHall)?

i'm also in UHall

they said that the entrance on 14th st will be closed, so we stop teh cars outside the 13th st entrance

i can't believe you're taking a UHall to college! let alone NYU!

i think they meant UHall as in University Hall not U-Haul :)

Anyway, has anyone ever moved in on the Monday of welcome week? What is it like? I'm flying in from Cali and arriving Monday morning.

wait so we can get there earlier than 9??? cuz my flight comes in at 6am and i was planning on hanging around the airport for a few hours before heading into the city...
