How are alternate majors reviewed?

Does anyone know how alternate majors are revieved? lets say, math/econ? is it still possible to get accepted into a non-impacted major such as math/econ eventhough you are missing 1-2 pre-reqs and a high gpa?

Probably the same way as admissions does. Pre-reqs and GPA.

well u have to be tap certified if you’re not they wont bother looking at your alternative. and if u r tap certified then they review you for your alternative just like they would for ur first major, your gpa and how many prereqs you’ve finished for that major.

oh okay, good thing i’m TAP certified :D…what if the alternate is not an impact major?

your alternative major CANNOT even be an impacted major…for anyone who is reading this if u put an impacted major as your alternative they wont review you for it which means if u dont get into ur first choice then you’re out of luck.

@wizard since u put an non-impacted major they’re going to review u for that major based on how many applications they got for that specific major. i dunno what ur gpa is but the avg gpa for most non-impacted majors are like 3.4 at most.

I have a 3.79 and listed math econ as my alternate which is not an impacted major…I’m hoping to get into that major since I wasn’t able to finish all of my calc clases by the spring for bus. Econ

^
That means you finished only calculus 1? I highly doubt you will be able to get in as a math/econ with just that.

I’m also taking calc 2 in the summer…I called ucla and they said that is fine for math Econ …but we’ll see

i doubt you’d get into math/econ since you’d be at least 3 classes behind before you could even start any upper division coursework. You’d still need to take multivariable calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and possibly discrete mathematics if you haven’t taken it yet .

Oh I see…my friend was admitted last year for math Econ as his alternate major and had a 3.6 with only calc 1 and 2 completed…

Even if you get in you’ll be spending a year taking math courses that you couldve taken at community college but with a UC price tag.

Is Econ impacted major?? I put business econ as my first choice and econ as my alternative…

@jetforce, that’s true, but CC is so BORING!
@ucwannabee, yes Econ is just as impacted as Bus. Econ. Maybe try changing it to math/econ?

If you put an impacted major as your alternate for UCLA I think you’re out of luck, sorry. You’re welcome to try, of course, but they’ve placed heavy emphasis on the fact that an alternate can’t be impacted (for UCLA TAP).
