How are College Dorm Parties?

How are the College Dorm Parties? Is it usally 5 people huddled ina room with teh door closed so the RA doesnt catched them? Who supplies the beer?

Is tehre usually one kid who supplies it for everyone?

I dont know how it is everywhere, but people don’t do their partying in dorms. Dorms are for pregaming.

Pregaming and small drinking gatherings too. Usually you’ll know someone who has a fake ID, or they know someone who does. Or someone could have a connect. They go out and get alcohol then smuggle it back into the dorms. Usually these don’t get big, otherwise their is too much noise and that is when the RAs come.

does someone usually provide the alchohol for pregaming or do you gotta pay the guy like it was in high school?

better giet a nice place to party, that would sounds safe and cool

Depending the strictness of your college’s policy I wouldn’t bother to drink in the dorms. Go to a house party/bar/etc. No use risking getting in trouble and having it annoyingly show up on your record.

People will usually make you pay them for alcohol. Girls can sometimes get it cheaper or free depending on the place, time, and person.

if you go to a private school, it’s probably legit to drink in your dorms

when i visited my friend at brown we played beer pong in the hallways haha (and smoked weed in the middle of the quads…fabulous).

at my public school, though, dorms are just for pregaming or chilling with a couple other people–pretty low-key, because you could get a citation for drinking there.

Depends on the school. Drinking in your dorms at BU is equal to murder and at my state school, no one cares if you drink in your dorms as long as you’re not walking around yelling and being obnoxious.

The scene on MTV’s “College Life” (or whatever the eff that show is called) is pretty accurate: a group of people, a large supply of alcohol, and not a great deal of common sense are usually involved in dorm parties.

In my experience, unless you have one of those power nazi RAs, they usually don’t care what goes on provided they don’t get in trouble.

It ultimately really depends on the layout of your dorm. If your dorm has a suite-style layout with rooms off of a central lounge/kitchen area, then you might be able to get away with a laid-back dorm party. However, if you just have a small room it’s really not going to go over because if you make any noise whatsoever you’re really going to get caught, and it’s very conspicuous to bring that many people over. The girls in the room next to me attempt to have dorm parties all of the time. They also get caught all of the time and one of them is closed to being expelled because she’s been written up so many times.

By the way, I go to a private school and it’s pretty vigilant about breaking up parties and writing people up. Even most of the parties in the campus apartments get broken up within a few hours, and it seems like all on-campus parties never last any later than 10 or 11 because they’ve all been busted. This is mostly because people are dumb and loud and they get caught. People who are careful to be inconspicous get away with it, but doesn’t being inconspicuous defeat the purpose of the party?

Moral of the story: Dorm parties don’t really work. You’ll probably have to go off-campus.

EDIT: As for pregaming and alcohol at parties, it ultimately depends. If you’re pregaming, usually it’s considered polite to pitch in, and at parties, sometimes people set up an alcohol fund beforehand so they can purchase enough, though I don’t think everyone that shows up pays. That being said, I’ve known people who have had purchased a bottle of rum being perfectly willing to share. My roommate buys a lot of alcohol, or rather, her of-age friends do, but she doesn’t drink it all herself.

Dorm parties can and do happen (obviously it depends on the location in question). My friends and I have “girls nights” in which we invite 10 of our closest girlfriends and just chill, gossip, play card games and have drinks. We play dance music, stay relatively quiet and we don’t get in trouble. Actual dorm parties (15 people crammed into a tiny room) do happen, but normally it is far too loud, people are far too stupid, and tend to get in trouble easily. People find 21-year-old friends to buy for them. Depending, normally the hosts foot the bill OR tell people to pitch in a few bucks beforehand. It also depends on how lenient your RA is, as to what activities you can get away with. With dorm parties, it is smart to stick to your best friends, and not let anyone else in who is likely to make a scene and draw attention

Finding a friend that is 21 or a gas station willing to sell to you is no problem. Everyone seems to have their own source. When I have people buy stuff for me, I sometimes just tell them to keep the change kinda as a “thank you”, but I often don’t do that. As far as alcohol at parties, sometimes they charge for you to get in (common at keg parties) or as they start to run low on beer, they send someone around collecting money from those willing to donate (Just a note: don’t be the “cool” kid that throws in $20. Max you should do is $5). Finding liqour at a party is quite uncommon around here. If you want it, you bring your own. Occasionally you will have someone bring some to share. If you do take your own bottle, don’t expect others to pitch in money for it. If you are a girl you can also get more stuff to drink without having to pay.
