How are decisions received?

Does USC only mail out? Or mail and then update a few days later online? Or email? How does it work?

For the early decisions, mail out and usually no online.

How about regular? @dragonflymusic‌

There is no early decision for USC, just scholarship notification in January. In fact, in a couple days :slight_smile: Yup the decisions are mailed out and then later updated online (usually an indication of your acceptance)

@stahboy‌ so kids who applied by the merit scholarship deadline should get letters if they got in or not soon?

@DCMoon34 Yes if you applied by the merit scholarship deadline, you will get an update on your status. For those awarded a scholarship, they are given their acceptance right off the bat. And letters are (hopefully) going to be mailed out this Friday!

Well my friend @madbean, it appears your instinct has turned gospel. Isn’t this time of year a hoot?

EVERYTHING crossed here. Hurry up already…LOL!

Is there mail sent out to those who DONT get their acceptance but applied by Dec 1?

@bioninja Those who don’t get their acceptance but applied by Dec 1 will get an update in the coming weeks

Usually about a week (maybe a little less, little more, depending on delivery time) after scholarship letters are received, people that applied but didn’t get a scholarship get a letter saying pretty much the – “Thanks for applying, no scholarship for you, and we will let you know if you are accepted in March.”

CADREAMIN is correct! Only the scholarship finalists (about 3% of those who applied by the Dec 1 deadline) will be notified they are finalists, and of course, that they have been accepted. The rest will not receive your admissions decisions until the end of March. At this time of year, there is a lot of anticipation and hope–but keeping things real: very very few become scholarship finalists. Have hope, of course! But also get ready to deal with reality if it doesn’t go your way. About 1000 will be finalists, while around 26,000 (last year 27,000 applied by the Dec 1 deadline) won’t get decisions for another 2 months.

In past years the acceptance letters were sent enclosed in a large packet. It is sent by the university priority mail by the USPS. In the packet is a formal letter of admission. There is also a certificate from the university and other information regarding housing and orientation dates.

Last year the packets were a bright gold color.

By when do you think the online portal will be updated? I’m from the Midwest and am wondering if perhaps I’ll get my update from the online portal instead of mail since it’ll take several days to be sent.

@FriendlyNerd888 It has not been confirmed yet when the portals will be updated, but I am thinking 1-2 days after they send out mail

@stahboy‌

Oh! That’s sooner than I thought. In that case pretty much everyone who doesn’t live close to Cali would get their update online instead of through mail.

@FriendlyNerd888 Usually the update to the portal is hard to notice but when it happens people who are offered scholarships on CC will tell us what is different about the portal and that is the indication. If your portal is not the same as someone else who received a scholarship, then I don’t think you will receive a scholarship.

@stahboy‌

Oh okay. So it seems that everybody who applied by December 1st will get their update sometime this weekend/early next week, regardless of where they live, which is good.

@FriendlyNerd888‌ Yup! I can’t wait! Wish you luck!

Hey Everyone, you realize the mention of things going out Friday was an educated guess, from someone who tends to know everything about USC, but still, just a guess? Then posters started running with that guess. There hasn’t been anything official from USC. Could even be next Friday…just saying. Don’t want anyone to have a nervous breakdown :slight_smile: There’s another Friday at the end of January besides this one…

Hope it is this Friday for everyone, but not counting on it…rather be pleasantly surprised it seems early than tortured for an extra week.
