Are the frats at W&L divided by religious belief? Are there many Jewish students on the campus? Are there Jewish organizations? Thank you.

The Frats do not have official religious affiliations and although there may be stereotypes for the types of people in each fraternity, religious belief is generally not part of that. As far as numbers of Jewish students they are definitely a small group but the Hillel is really active and I know a few W&L students went on the birthright trip last winter. They're building a new center for Jewish life too which is going to be awesome. There's also been an increasing number of Jewish students in each class (there's a pretty good number in the freshman class this year).
I hope that answers your question!

Hey Jane I'm a Jewish student who is a finalist for the johnson scholar and at least for me, Judaism is a big deal in my college pick. I was initially a little nervous about whether or not the Jewish community in w&l was active, but I was contacted by the hillel leader which assuaged my fears a little bit. You're not the only one who's thinking about it though!

Me too! I actually only applied to the school because I got a letter from the Hillel. I'm a Johnson finalist and I've been going to a Modern Orthodox yeshiva my whole life. My college guidance counselor had barely even heard of the school.

Strong commitment to vibrant Jewish community - see the pending construction of the new Hillel House

many active religious groups and a dedicated "sacred space" for various groups to use for their own purposes and a coordinator of religious life who has a budget to assist groups with retreats, speakers, etc.

My daughter is a junior and very active w/Hillel. She has really enjoyed her time at W&L. She went on the birthright trip last Dec with a friend of hers from HS. Any questions, pm me.
