Hi, I'm currently in Chinese 1AX with Professor Liu and I need to get an idea of how well I am doing in order to decide whether to take it p/np. I'm guessing there isn't a curve so do we get grades based on an absolute scale like "A 90-100%" and "B 80-100%"? Unless I am fairly confident that I'll get an A- or higher, I would like to take it p/np. Currently I have 91% of the total possible points so far, but I expect that to drop a bit by the end of the semester. If anybody has taken Chinese 1AX and can give me an answer, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

bump 10char

so how was the class Liquidus?

Pretty easy as long as you can memorize how to write characters and understand how the grammar patterns work. Memorizing takes a fair amount of time. I ended up with a A- in 1AX and 1BX.

Uh oh, memorizing. D: But glad to hear. Thanks for the response =)

Oh jeez, how many characters on average do you have to memorize each week?

And how’s the tests and final for 1AX?

Was everyone in 1AX already fluent in Mandarin but just couldn’t read/write? I know some Mandarin and Cantonese but not enough to be considered a native speaker… I’m currently in 1AY so will I be moved up?

Students in 1AX ranged from fluent to basic. You’ll know which class is right for you once you meet your classmates. On average you will have 60 characters each week. I got around 90 on most of my tests and finals after memorizing most of the words.

60 characters?!!?

OMG I’M SUCH A FOOL
