How do IB grades translate into GPA? Most schools publish their data for GPAs, and I really can find Data specific to IB candidates. What IB score should I be looking for to gain admission into Ivy leagues? Also, Do schools look at Total points or at specific subjects. For example, I’m applying for engineering programs and I have 7s in Math, Chemistry, and Physics Higher level, but My Standard level are mostly 6s. Will schools actually care about my Low score because of the SL subjects?
It’s my understanding that most schools have an undisclosed formula for converting IB points into a GPA. We had the same questions you have as my son was an IB Diploma student, and what I found was that there is nothing credible on the internet in terms of a conversion formula - I wouldn’t bother if I were you. If you are looking at engineering programs, I am sure they will also focus on your impressive HL scores. Also, there is some information, now pretty old, from an IBO survey suggesting that IB Diploma students are admitted at a higher rate than others by top US schools. Look at p. 19 of the linked document: https://www.ibo.org/contentassets/12ca22e438df4a65b4c92e42b70b10ea/globaldpdestinationsurveyus.pdf It’s from 2011, but it may still give you some peace of mind!
