How are international students treated?

I don't know much about Kansas. I don't know how I will fit in, if I choose to go here. Is there racial superiority of any sorts around campus or around the college town in general? I'm South Asian.

Not treated badly I think. There are a lot of international students and diversity around; I mean, yeah it’s Kansas so the student makeup is mostly white, but it’s certainly more diverse than the smaller Kansan high school I went to. There’s often people walking around conversing in different languages, etc. My roommate in the summer was from Japan, and she was really nice (◡‿◡✿)

I’m part Filipino and I haven’t had to deal with what you are talking about, mostly because Lawrence is a liberal dot in a conservative state. The closest I get to seeing ‘hesitance’ on people’s faces is when I stop at a gas station in the countryside or something. However this is all just my experience.

I haven’t experienced much racial weirdness around campus. There’s a large population of international students, and there are a lot of student groups that are focused on international students & students with different backgrounds. SASA has a lot of fun festivals & stuff and one of the girls I live with is Indian & participates in their fashion shows & Diwali celebrations, etc. There’s also ISA, the International Student Association, which represents international students in Student Senate. Even though the population is mostly white as SerfiSerfi said, Lawrence is one of the most open-minded towns in conservative Kansas, and a fantastic college town. I don’t think you should be concerned about “racial superiority” or anything like that in town. As SerfiSerfi said, it’s really just if you’re in a small town in rural Kansas. I’m mostly Chinese and grew up in the Kansas City area, but I’ve volunteered in a 95% Hispanic inner city school, so I get what you’re thinking of.
