How are major gpas calculated?

hey guys,

so i slacked off in my junior year and now im in my senior year. my freshman and sophomore years were easy. basically i worked and interned and went to school and got As without much effort in class. however, junior year came and i did the same thing and ended up doing badly on my major classes.. i was a finance major and was moved to economics..

ok so in order to graduate as an econ major (without being kicked out of the major) i need to get a 2.0 gpa in my economics classes by my last semester.

right now, i have 1.925 because some finance classes carried over (2 Ds).

also right now, im taking two economics classes with the Deans of econ department at my school. i happened to bomb one of my midterms heh..

anyway my question is this.

is major gpa calculated the same way as cumulative gpa? if not then how? because i think with cumulative gpas, the more credits you have, the less your gpa will increase

thanks for the input guys.

It probably depends entirely on your department. Ask the department advisor how you’re doing. Sometimes you can make up a fail or poor grade in one class with another.
