Please please tell me if I have a chance at UCSD. It’s my #1 choice
yea I think you can get in good luck. write good essays and make your application shine haha, no use stressing out. there’s also extracurricular , try to write in apt descriptions and be as accurate as possible. glad to see potential Tritons: P. hope to see you on campus sometime (feel free to contact me sometime and I’ll help you fall in love with UCSD even more lol)
PS there’s a UCSD forum in college confidential… it has lot of good info you m if it wanna check out. I’d also go on the ucsd website for some more info. I think ucsd posts average acceptance stats if ur interested, but I think you’re qualified
I think you should have a good shot, but some higher scoring applicants with slightly lower GPAs have gotten surprise rejections or waitlisted from the mid-level UCs this year. So you need to be sure to have a backup plan and apply relatively widely to schools at this level.
@inn0v8r Oh no :o Yes I’ll definitely apply broadly…How much do you think National Merit Finalist would help my chances? It seems like colleges seem to like that?
I think nmsf helps but be careful not to rest on your laurels. I knew several folks this year who had it (well technically, semifinalist, since finalist doesn’t come out until after your applications are in) who got shut out of almost every UC.
Honestly, to reduce your stress, I would urge you to find a place with a lot of merit aid and rolling admission that you can apply to and get into right away. I would note also that USC will give you 50% towards tuition if you get national merit AND you get in. (It is not so easy nowadays.)
I would toss a few places out to look at closely:
University of Alabama
University of Arizona.
Arizona State
They are each top 50 in biology and have rolling admission and great merit aid (probably full ride with nmsf) and honors colleges. Get yourself into one or more of these early in the application season, and you will be much more relaxed with some really good options that can help you and your family save money before medical school.
@inn0v8r Ohh ok thank you. I’ll definitely look into those schools. I just reaaally want to stay in state (CA) haha. I hope I can get into some of the mid/upper-tier UC’s…fingers crossed
@wormholes yea I’m 2020. there’s also a Facebook group if you’d like to check it out. but yeah I’d echo innov8r’ s advice in applying to some other schools. Some my friends applied to were the CSU and riverside Irvine Davis in addition to SD la and cal
