How are My chances for MSU??

What are my chances for MSU?

-3.8 GPA under a 5.0 scale
-21 ACT Score, I took it twice, the other one was a 20
-Involved in Sports and Activities like Football and Peer Counseling
-Have made an improvement with Class Difficulties over the years, Started from very weak classes to very strong honor/A.P classes.

How do my chances look?

I would like to be a Spartan.

Are you a junior or a senior?

If you are a junior, then I would highly, highly suggest retaking the ACT, or even taking the SAT (some people do better on one than the other).

If you are a senior, then I recommend applying ASAP. The 21 is on the low side (it’s about 2-3 points below the low end of the middle 50%) and I’m not sure what 3.8 on a 5.0 scale means. Does that mean that As= 5.0, Bs= 4.0, etc or does it only mean that weighted (honors/APs) grades are out of 5.0? If your GPA means that you have a high C/low B average, then I would say you’re most likely going to be deferred until they see your 1st semester grades. If it’s a high B/low A average, then your chances improve significantly, but it’s still on the rocky side because of that ACT.

Do you have an extra curriculars? Also, was there a medical explanation for the poor performance early on? (They do take into consideration if there was some issue that was resolved).

Best of luck! Remember to apply early and don’t get discouraged if you are deferred, just remember to do really well your senior year :)!

3.8 out of 5.0 meaning 5.0 is A, 4.0 is B. I heard that it would technically be a 2.8/4.0 anyways in a 4.0 scale.

Yeah, that’s about what it would be.

I honestly don’t think you’ll be admitted right away. I think you’ll be deferred and then perhaps accepted if you do really well your senior year. Sometimes, people can get accepted in August if they do really well.

If by chance you aren’t accepted spend a year at a community college or somewhere else and then transfer in.

Best of luck!!

It’s possible but I wouldn’t count on it. GPA and ACT are on the lower end for MSU. It is difficult to be admitted if you have less than a B average. If you have strong fall semester grades it would help.

not applying to this cruddy school anyways, especially with where you guys live.

Um… ok??

Good luck getting in anywhere with that kind of attitude. MSU has held it’s rank in the top 100 public schools for many years. Face the facts; you’re grades are nowhere near MSU’s middle 50%. What were you expecting us to say? “Oh, you’re a shoo-in! Don’t worry!”
Haha. The maturity of some kids these days.

Uhm? I don’t know if you’re referring to me or someone else, but MI isn’t even my state of residency. I don’t live in Detroit.
Accept the facts. You most likely won’t get accepted to your top choice, Purdue, because of your grades. You NEED to apply to other schools. Just listen to me, okay?

Furthermore, East Lansing is about an hour and a half from Detroit.

What ARE you talking about?

“not applying to this cruddy school anyways”

With the schools you ARE applying to, understand some forums are checked by adcoms. A few key details about yourself and a whole lotta 'tude can spell trouble. I am not saying it will, definitely- but why not be cautious?

Sorry about that I don’t know much bout MSU so i was doing some research so as not to only say that I didn’t know bout the college…you should chill.
Anyways I thinlk that it is a low reach/high match for you since your ACTs are a little below…have you taken the SATs you migth do better on that. Your GPA seems a little low but who knows your essays and recs migth be good. Also I think that they will like the fact that youve had an upward trend in rigor.
Anyways thanks for chancing me and I wish you the best of luck
You migth want to be a little more patient for chance backs anyways again good luck :)

Well, knowing Purdue’s accepted stats, your chances are not good. If you wrote an excellent personal statement explaining why your grades and act are low and let your fantastic personality show, oh wait a second. ;)

cool story bro.

But seriously, I wish you good luck while awaiting a decision from Purdue. If you get in, great and congrats, but if you don’t, you can always go to a different school and transfer in. You can always give MSU another chance, it’s a great school. I would like to know why you think it is “cruddy”.

I don’t think it is cruddy, but it is clear a lot of people here wouldn’t want me nor do they think I have “any chance” at getting in.

Why WOULD they want you? You ask for people’s help and opinions, and when you get them, you insult them and the school? These people are all correct; your scores are well below what most of the people accepted have and your chances are not very good, whether you like or not.

chill…what kind of person makes a thread asking if they are gonna get in and then spaz out saying i dont wanna go to that " cruddy" school.
