How are my chances?

Hi everyone! I am applying to USC this year as a senior and was wondering what you all thought about my chances! I plan to major in Broadcast Journalism in Annenberg.

Stats:
SAT Total: 1900 M: 680, CR: 590, WR: 630 (Taking again)
ACT: 29 (Taking again in September)
SAT Subject Tests: Math 1 - 740, Math 2 - 600, US History - 600
GPA-UW/W: 3.81/3.95
Rank: 73/493
AP/IB classes: European History (4 - 10th grade), US History (3) and Lang (4) Environmental Science (Senior year)

Subjective:
Essays: Pretty good so far - just needs to be shortened and polished a little more
Teacher Recs: Should be pretty good as well
Counselor Rec: Know and love my counselor! He's been there for me all year and knows exactly what I've been going through - at our last meeting he said he would write me "a hell of a letter of recommendation"
EC highlights: DECA: State Champion, State Officer, International Finalist (Top 20 out of 8 countries)
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Freshman "Link" Crew, Varsity Cheerleading (1 year), JV Tennis (3 years), 11th grade Graduation escort (top 30 in class invited), Key Club, school Television Anchor/Producer, and some more...

Location/Person:
Colorado
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Other Factors, hook?: Grandparents both USC grads, Godfather = major contributor

I know my ACT/SAT score could be the thing bringing me down, so I'm aiming for a 2100 and a 32!

I think the GPA is good, and the Subjective section sounds good. I think the SAT and ACT are a little bit low (the goals you set sound perfect), but I think the rank, SAT 2 scores, and AP scores are low. Also, USC likes in state students a LOT more than out of state, and their acceptance rate is already mid 30%. The grandparents may help and the godfather being a contributor should help as well. I think your chances right now are between 20 and 30%, but if you get the SAT and ACT up to what you hope for, I would say around 60%
Good Luck and I hope you get in!

FutureUSCT,

I think you’ve done a good job assessing your own chances; as the above link shows, your UWGPA is right at the average for admitted students but your standardized test scores are pretty well below the mid-point. Getting your scores up combined with your legacy and EC/recommendation situation and I think you’ll be in very good shape.

mschusler, first of all, USC does not require/ask for SAT IIs unless the applicant is coming from a non-accredited high school. Second, to my knowledge, as a private school USC shows no preference to in-state versus out-of-state applications. The fact that the largest geographic segment of students is from California probably has more to do with proximity than anything else. Also, can you please provide a link to the data that supports your claim that in-state California applicants have a 30% admit rate? I’ve never seen that statistic and I’m sure many other applicants/parents would be interested in the USC generated information.

LOL that hook’s def. gonna get you in, don’t even worry
