How are my chances?

YOU HAVE REALLY LOW SCORES !!
I BET YOU WONT GET INTO THOSE COLLEGED THAT YOU ARE APPLYING
PUT ON A MORE "HANDS-ON APPROACH"
AND 560+570+650 DOESN'T MAKE 1850, THATS WHY I SEE WHY YOU SCORED LOW IN SAT MATHS. you only have 1780, NOT EVEN 1850!!!!

AND I MUST ADMIRE YOU FOR HAVING THE BALLS TO APPLY TO THOSE COLLEGES.

IF I WERE THE ADMISSION DEAN, I WOULD REJECT YOU "NO QUESTIONS ASKED"
I THINK YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT PROBLEM GETTING SELECTED TO ANY COLLEGE AT ALL!!!

ISN'T THERE TIME FOR GIVING SATS AGAIN??

LAST LINE: IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING,
DO TRY BUDDY!!
AS IF THINGS HAPPENED LIKE IT SEEMED IN PAPER , BRAZIL WOULD PROBABLY WIN EVERY FOOTBALL WORLDCUPs

Bee- IIT may be hard to get in.. but there's hope at least.. 1850 SAT as an Indian doesn't give ANY hope to get into Princeton!!!!!!!!!

Look, don't be stubborn. You won't get into those universities with those scores.

TAKE A DAMN YEAR OFF. It's your only hope. Many internationals (including me) do so.

Anyway, it seems that you WILL have to take a year off, no matter what.

aks90 when people here are telling you your chances are low I think they are referring to the 5 schools in your first post (stanford, williams, etc). I agree they'll be virtually impossible.

As for the others, you probably have a chance for Ohio Wesleyan, UMass and Northeastern but not Oberlin.

lol aks90 apply to some non-expensive state schools or look to other countries like singapore....considerin u can afford just $10000, singapore would be a better choice for u, cuz most US schools cost a lot more that 10k

i think the sats account for very little if you have a sparkling resume and personality behind those statistics.

Well..I am sure that I am not getting into the primary colleges to which I applied and that's precisely why i applied to UMass Amherst , Oberlin , Northeastern , OWU but looks like my chances are bleak there too..

And so I am thinking of applying to NUS(I hear they evaluate the applicant's Board results carefully??) and maybe McGill or Univ of Toronto..
Seriously , apart from the SAT's I think my application is fine..Damn! i should not have taken the SAT's lightly..Here I see students with near perfect scores who still don't have much of a chance in getting admitted to the colleges where I applied..I should have got a reality check when I saw my Sat scores..

Anyways , could anyone please recommend any other good colleges in N.America or even Australia(any colleges here which give need based aid to intl students?) where I have a chance of getting admitted ?

Really sorry for pestering you people with my queries but as I stated earlier I cannot take a year off!! Its practically impossible...What am I supposed to do in that year?

Thanks!

You can study and work.. study uni level materials, work and do anything to boost your cv..

I advise you to stop thinking about anything that you feel would work against you in your application. You might be fretting over your SATs, your ECs, myriad typos in your essay or your FA request.

I'd say it's better to hope for the best than brood over posts that promise "brutal" honesty. No one (yes, even those on CC) can predict your chances to get into ANY university (even if it's HYP). You never know what catches the Adcom's eye, do just pray for the best and who knows, a fat P'ton envelope might just land up in your mailbox this summer... :)

^ don't give false hopes.

advice- give IELTS go to Australia- ten grand will definitely get you to sidney university.

Yeah..I was thinking of applying to either Sydney Univ or Monash..Both of them are in the Group of Eight Univ I think..So I'll probably apply there too..

PS:- Sorry but can everyone just give my chances to all the U.S colleges to which I applied with a YES , no and a maybe..Coz I still cannot believe that I wont even get into OWU!!!! Sorry!!

i don't think 10grand's enough for australian unis..

^it is you work with it.

Successful participation in the National Science Olympiad

[/quote]

Successful as in top 10 or top 10,000?

Well this is the olympiad conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation in India and sponsored by mtg(an indian learning media company).
I receieved a certificate of distinctive performance from them by scoring above 60% overall in the first level test of this olympiad. This certficate is awarded to those students who have achieved a certain standard of excellence in science. Not sure about the national percentile though since its not mentioned in my certificate. The only thing mentioned is the breakdown of the percentage I recieved in each section. For eg:- On the Phy section I got a 85%.

NSO National Science Olympiad

According to this website your score report shows your All India - Rank which is what HYPS & Co will be interested in (and which I guess is rather low; I had a look at 11th and 12th grade non-medical sample exams and frankly 60% does not appear to be too big of an accomplishment).

I wrote this in Gr 9 and not in gr 11 or 12...We have olympiads in every grade in the Indian system. And yeah I did score above 60% in this test in 2004 but I didnt mention the details while applying..Should I send the colleges my certifcate?

Because IF it can even help a bit on my admissions i would gladly do so. Instead of making things confusing by trying to explain this is it okay if i send them my certificate and relevant details?

But , will they take into consideration a science olympiad taken by me in Gr 9?

I think colleges already have enough paperwork to process ^^

"Successful participant of" sounds sketchy, supposedly referring to something along the lines of an honorable mention (i.e. the lowest distinction possible), and your SAT scores in math and physics support that assumption. But reporting being in the top 40% will hurt you more than it might help: HYPS are interested in the cream of the crop and not the above average student. Better have them suppose than know for sure...

Come on guys, most of you sound like its the end of the world for the poor chap. How about giving him a break and some helpful suggestions. I would say aks90 take a breather and reanalyse your situation. You've got great EC's, a respectable HS record but low test scores. Try finding colleges that do not consider the SAT 1 and 2 scores (Connecticut College springs to mind). Just try finding colleges along those lines and I am sure you will find a great match for you, always play to your strengths.
