Hi, thanks for helping me out.

I'm in my third year at CC and I'm about ready to transfer with a decent amount of EC's done; I just want to know which EC's you think were a waste and which would help me the most. Also you can chance me if you want. Thanks! :)

Major: Industrial Engineering (UCB, USC, Cal Poly), Mechanical Engineering (UCLA, UCSD)

Job: I'm a lab technician at an Aerospace/Manufacturing plant; so I basically do a a bunch of different kinds of tests for the plant. I do mechanical/destructive testing, chemistry testing, slurry/shell testing, inspection, etc. Once I finish testing, I analyze my results and discuss them with the engineers. I have also helped in a few engineering projects to help help improve productivity and quality of the product. I get to work hand in hand with engineers and gain a lot of knowledge in quality assurance and manufacturing.

EC's: Engineering Club, Robotics Team, Society of Physics Students

Volunteer Work: 150+ at my local family shelter (tutor, student mentor)

GPA: 3.78-3.82

sorry for writing so much, and thank you so much to everyone that answers! :)

With extra-curricular activities, there is no such thing as a total waste. Even if you do something completely unrelated to your intended field of work, you gained a new experience and it also shows that you have a diverse interest.

In your case, I can’t chance you since I’m not an engineering major but I can tell you that your experience as a lab technician at an aerospace/manufacturing plant sounds highly attractive as an EC since its directly related to your field of interest and it doesn’t seem like many other people have that sort of experience. Your other EC’s as well as your volunteering will only serve to help you. So as far as EC’s are concerned, they look very good.

Thanks KarmaGo! :)

Anyone else???

I don’t understand the problem, OP.

Just list everything you’ve done.

Some people have zero ECs.

I know, I just wanted feedback…I keep reading other threads and posts talking about how EC’s are a waste and that GPA is the only thing UC’s care about. It would just suck if I did all of that for nothing haha but thanks for the input! :)

The UCs have made it clear that, like GPA, ECs are important. Now, ECs aren’t as important as GPA, but they’ll certainly help your chances.

Cool, thanks briceies! :)

Anyone else have any feedback or want to chance me? Thanks!
