how are my EC's?

Internship in the Pre-College Office @ School (90hrs)

Co-Founder & Organizer of the Music Club @ School

Senior Representative of the Student Council

Guitar (3yrs)

Introduction to Business (College Course in Fall, plan to major in business)

Junior Scholars Program (Honors Program in Fall)

Community Service (plan on completing about 80hrs, is that good enough?)

For what type of school? It is best when you show a clear commitment to an activity through years of participation, regular hours devoted, as well as leadership positions. You seem to at least have leadership positions covered. Anything you receive academic credit for is not an extracurricular.

The question about impressive ECs comes up regularly on the forum. There is a thread with comments by Northstarmom, a Ivy alum interviewer, about what constitutes impressive ECs from the point of view of the most selective colleges. The post is at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/210497-those-ecs-weak-so-what-s-good.html

2 very interesting articles about ECs that stand out and how to get them (same author, different examples) are at [How to Be Impressive](The Art of Activity Innovation: How to Be Impressive Without an Impressive Amount of Work - Cal Newport) and [Save This Grind?](Case Study: How Could We Save This Ridiculously Overloaded Grind? - Cal Newport) While I don’t agree with everything in them, take a look at these 2 articles and I think you’ll get some original ideas.

Thanks for the criticism. I didn’t mean to add the college course, because I do realize it is an acedemic activity. Some of the schools I’m aiming for include Penn State, Michigan State and Purdue.

Thanks for the articles, I’ll check them out. In your opinion, how do my EC’s look?
