How are my EC's?

I am a junior and am looking into biology/chemistry and hopefully premed at top schools (ivies, etc.). I am set with academics but not sure about EC's.

President of astronomy club and vice president of school science team.

I have over 700 hours of volunteer (hospital, working with kids with special needs, tutoring, etc.)

I have over 100 hours of shadowing doctors and will be more.

I am doing research at a research institution in phsyics (will this hurt me? since it is not bio/chem) Will do intel, siemens, isef next year (have an amazing project with various mentors) Will continue over the summer and next year.

I was part of a selective program last year in summer for science.

This year I was accepted for a science program that is extremely hard to get into (its free and like 15 kids make it total)

I have won various regional research awards and other school awards. Nothing that major (commended for PSAT as well.)

So without that sounding too pretentious, how do i stand? What else could I do to improve my application? Any feedback would be very helpful.

I think your ECs are fantastic. I honestly have no recommendations. Your keeping busy in the summer, have some leadership positions in school clubs, doing research (really, I don’t think the fact that its physics will hurt you a bit. Could you imagine them saying “Nah, this guy isn’t serious. He did his research in physics - not bio/chem.”), and obtaining a couple awards along the way.

Just make sure you write a fantastic essay, and enjoy alll the stuff you’re doing.

Thanks for the feedback. Anyone else?

Yeah! Id say that you are on the right track. From talking to various people in admissions, I have learned that it’s not the number of things you are involved in, but your dedication to a fewer number of things that you feel strongly about. In essence, they use EC’s to access your dedication and to get to know you better. I hope this helps!

Your ECs look pretty solid, especially if you get some recognition at Intel, Siemens, etc.

It’s good that you have a passion for science…what did you do to shadow a doctor-did you have to sign up or something?

@foodlover0010- It was a doctor we had known, so he got me approved to shadow him, nothing else. But I am sure there are programs if that is something you are interested in.
