How are my ec's?

hi. i want to apply to yale scea and princeton rd both as a tie for my top choice of a university. i was hoping some students could tell me how my ec's look.

Sports
-Tae Kwon Do. 2nd Gup black belt.(2nd degree) working towards this for 3 years and am working toward the 3 Gup. Learning some Korean as it is a requirement to receive each belt.

Volunteer
-Every spring break a service trip to Ecuador with a school club. Since sophomore year.
-1,000+ hours volunteering at my local hospital.(i want to be a doctor)
-Bistro (school dinner to raise money for people who can't afford to attend the school. I waitress every year)

Clubs
-Timmy Foundation(club i go to ecuador with) Treasurer
-BSU (black student union)
-Students Taking Responsibility Against Poverty

Teams
-Chemistry Team (Captain)

Yay for Tae Kwon Do! If you come to Princeton, definitely join the team. We have a ton of fun traveling to tournaments and kicking butt. (=
I don't think the Korean you learn for TKD is mentionable on a college app because it's not extensive, nor do you learn Korean grammar or syntax in TKD.

It's great that you volunteer. Question. Do you have passion for your volunteer work? If you do (and I hope you do!), an essay about a single important moment you experienced in Ecuador or in the hospital is much more valuable than how many hours you've logged as a volunteer. I'm a little suspicious about Bistro... is it a large time commitment? Colleges like commitment.

For your other activities, Captain of the Chemistry Team, a leadership role, is definitely great. You seem very service oriented, are you going to make this the forefront of your application?

And something you may not have thought of yet, do the teachers writing your recommendation know about your ec's and more importantly, what these ec's mean to you, your growth, your goals? Do you? Now's a good time to tell them!

This is really general advice, as I'm a firm believer that a person should just do the ec's he or she loves, without worrying about how it'll look to an adcomm. Good luck to you wowzerz2010.

Yay princeton has a taekwondo team. I'm glad to hear that i won't have to end my study of taekwondo if i get accepted to princeton.

Yes I have a very strong passion for my volunteer work. I don't think I could spend 1,000+ hours in a hospital if i didn't. For some strange reason i really like hospitals. I also love the look on those little childrens faces in ecuador when we help their families. The Bistro is a time committment it is only a one night event but each year it takes alot of planning. Everybody helps plan up until spring. Then with the help of about 1,600 drunk rich parents the school is able to raise about 500,000 by selling them things they don't really need. So that kids who other wise wouldn't be able to come can attend.

I suppose since i am so service orriented i should put this at the forefront of my ap. I hadn't really thought about it before but that is a wonderful idea.

Most of my teachers don't know about my actvities out of school but do know about the ones in school. I believe i do know how these relate to my goals though. I love helping people and that is why i want to be a doctor. it is the ultimate help others job.

I forgot one activity. It isn't large but I've working at quizno's for the past 3 years and I'm a manager now. I'm not sure if work is considered ec's though but i just though I'd add that.

Thanks for the advice debryc and feel free to add anymore commits you may think of.
