Okay sorry if this took a while to read. XD I absolutely LOVE! theater and acting and I am forever thankful for Upward Bound :). I will probably be an AD for my school shows if not starting this year, then next year. And plus I will certainly have a leadership position in drama club this or next year and maybe other clubs as well. I also will have about 100 hours of volunteer work done application time senior year.

My GPA is 4.0 unweighted and 4.083 weighted and I am taking the ACT soon. I am first in my class of 439. I got a 770 on the US History Subject Test and a 5 on APUSH.

And I never thought about not being able to fit stuff before…

well then maybe you should. the activities portion of the application allows you 6 slots for activities related to school and 3 slots for activities related outside school so you should make sure that whatever you put on is important/unique.

Yea… I think you’re extra curriculars are good enough. You asked if you should list clubs that were disorganized and obviously not interesting to you (since you quit)… You probably shouldn’t list those, haha. I doubt Columbia cares about quantity or even prestige… they’re looking to see if you’ve dedicated your time and energy to a worthy pursuit (On my app I, for example, pretty much only focused on Speech and Debate and that worked for me…)

If that pursuit is theater and acting… well that seems very worthy to me and it looks like you’ve had a lot of success with it too (putting on shows and stuff).

Okay, thanks. That’s good to hear. I was just a bit worried about the prestige thing because it seems like a lot of people have done research and a milion other things on here that are applying to the Ivies…

I don’t think so. When I see a student listing himself as the president of 5 clubs or something. All of them could be as prestigious as National Honor Society. But all I think to myself is I know this person couldn’t have possibly put the equal care and energy as someone who dedicates themselves to one or two things. When you can prove yourself a leader in maybe one, two, or I guess a max of three activities, I can see that as strengthening your application immensely. But when you just go for quantity, no matter how grand the clubs sound, it only cheapens it for me.
