How are my Schools Based On What I Want

Yale doesn't really have an undergraduate focus, and Cornell definitely doesn't have one. You'll get a good undergraduate education at both schools but their primary concern is not undergraduates.

That's actually false. Yale's priority, according to Yale President Levin, is undergraduate education: "First, among the nation's finest research universities, Yale is distinctively committed to excellence in undergraduate education. Second, in our graduate and professional schools, as well as in Yale College, we are committed to the education of leaders."

This is especially obvious with all the advising, the residential college system, the 7:1 student:faculty ratio, the literally hundreds of internship/research/study abroad/fellowship programs for undergrads, and hundreds of thousands of dollars of funding for undergraduate extracurricular activities/clubs and civic engagement.

Graduate education is Yale's #2 priority. Please take time to actually research things before giving false advice.

Thanks of the suggestions, yeah Brown was always very iffy on my list and I think I can definitely cross that off.

What do you think about some of the schools toward the middle of my list like Bucknell and Lehigh?

Also, how much in the city is Yale- I've never seen it. Would you compare it more to Georgetown (not right in the hub of the city) or Penn (right in the city)?

Thanks for all your help!

*sorry somehow posted the same thing twice. stupid broken computer!

bump

any more thoughts?

Have you checked out Elon University? It fits most of your criteria pretty well. Mid-sized, nice college town, school spirit, good 'ol southern (North Carolina) hospitality, mild N.Carolina climate, pretty big Greek scene so the social life is good, etc.

You can read some reviews from current students here: Elon University | Unigo

I'll check Elon out, to be honest I hadn't heard of it before (I don't know much about southern schools)

I'm gunna try bumping this up one more time, any more thoughts?

You can read commentary by actual attendees at specific colleges at a web site you can find by easily googling the following terms: college reviews

Brown definitely doesn't seem to fit. Neither does Dartmouth for location :/ But you have some good possibilities to start with from what I can tell.

"Also, how much in the city is Yale- I've never seen it. Would you compare it more to Georgetown (not right in the hub of the city) or Penn(right in the city)?"

I've seen Yale many times ( I live in CT) and its very different from Penn and Georgetown. It's definitely in the city but it's a fairly small one. While New haven has about 120,000 residents, Phili has about 1.5 milliion. You certainly won't feel overwhelmed in New Haven but there are many things near the campus like book stores, restaurants, clubs, etc. If you're into volunteering, I'm sure you'd have a lot of opportunities in New Haven because it is very different then the rest of CT. It isn't affluent and is more urban than most other towns but isn't as dangerous as people say it is.

Yale's campus isn't completely secluded from the town: you may see a yale building, a business, and then another yale building. It's up to you whether you want to avoid new haven and stay on campus (there's a lot at yale so I'm sure its possible) or go off campus everyone and a while. I'd go with the latter

i think that bucknell matches all your criteria (although maybe a little cold and isolated).

how about davidson?
