How are night classes?

I want to take a certain class but the earlier one is full but there is one available from 7-8:30 pm, Mon and Wed.

Never taken a night class before so just want some opinions. I heard it's best to avoid them b/c the professors are tired and usually want to go home so they don't lecture as well. I guess it just depends on the professor. What about for the student? Is it hard to concentrate at that time? It will mean I have to eat much earlier now and I have to start my studying at home a little later.

I took a 7-9:40 class last semester and I didn't like it much.

It was a great class (Poli Sci) and the professor was really good. But my other classes were all in the morning, so I wasn't in "school mode" come 7 at night and I never wanted to go.

But I'm also a morning person by nature. But I think it was good for me, because now I know that night classes aren't for me. :)

Well, I had a class from 5:30-7:30. The professor seems pretty energetic. Since, just because your class starts at 7:00 doesn't mean the prof has been teaching since 8. I'm not sure about concentrating... It really depends on the class. I was sitting beside a pretty girl and the course itself is interesting so I wasn't too bored. :)

So I would not say that night classes are worse than other ones.

I had a class last semester that was 6-8:45, and I HATED it. I didn't learn anything, because after a certain length of time it's impossible to pay attention anymore. Your class is only an hour and a half, so it might not be so bad, but I'm definitely switching out of the night class this semester and into the day class, even though I like the night class prof much more.

I think it's really a matter of personal interest. Some people would be okay with night classes, whereas others wouldn't like them and would find it hard to concentrate.

I prefer evening classes, because they're usually calmer. I hate being in class in the morning...

And yours is only till 8:30. I've had ones that go till 9:20 or even 9:45.

I have one night class, and I just love it - okay, the prof is awesome, funny, amazing.. (if I were a girl, I'd have a crush on him. Seriously):
But it's amazing for my studies - because my day begins at 8am and ends at 8pm - with long breaks in between, perfect for going to the library and doing assignments. And at the end of the day, I'm exhausted, but I've finished a lot.

I love my evening classes. It's true, everyone is tired from the day and wants to go home, but I've found them to be a lot more entertaining because people are just trying to make the best of it. Most of my evening classes are labs, which means they're even longer, but they're also a lot more relaxed. The only downside is that it's pretty hard for me to find food after class, since the dining halls are usually closed afterwords. I prefer evening classes to early morning classes any day. I guess it would depend on the class though.

I had 6:30 through 8 twice a week last semester and hated it. This semester I have from 6 to 9 once a week and will probably hate it even more.

What kind of class it it? Is it required for your major?

I never had a problem with evening classes. It depends on the professor and content of the course. Make sure you eat something before class or bring some caffeinated drinks to keep you awake/alert.

It's basic Physics class that I forgot I needed. I think it's going to be really easy so I figure I can handle it as my only night class.

I had an evening computer class (it was like 5:30-6:20 or something like that, it was 2 years ago) and that same semester I also had a lab on a different night which was from 6:30-9:20 which was a PAIN IN THE BUTT major big time and I HATED it. The computer class wasn't at a terrible time, but I hated it because it was really boring so I never wanted to go.

i've had classes at night and i didn't mind. it gave me time during the day to do problems. granted, i didn't work at that time, but still.

I had a lab from 7-10PM and loved it. well, kind of. i mean it sucked, but it wasn't as stressful as i thought it would be. plus, everyone wanted to get done ASAP. it wasn't lecture, but it was late. walking in the forests/fog of UCSC at that time is quite the horror film.

Night classes were a staple in my undergraduate schedule. I did a late night lab and a lot of late night lectures. I'm a night person, so I had no problem staying awake in class. I felt the profs lectured perfectly fine. The classes are more relaxed and like people have said...everyone just makes the best of everything. The labs are really fun because everyone moves really fast and there is a lot of motivation in the air...sounds corny, but it's true. I really didn't mind finishing late. I always was able to eat and if I knew the lab was going to end when everything was closed, I would eat early. I worked really well after night classes because I knew time was of essence.

I've had plenty of courses that went until 8pm, 9pm, and 9:20pm and for the most part I preferred these time slots. It freed up a lot of time for me during the day, so I was able to hold a part-time job and get errands done. It also gave me lots of time to prepare for classes during the day, which I wouldn't be able to do for 9am classes.

I did get tired sometimes, but I think that was due to me waking up too early and doing too much stuff during the day. It wasn't anything coffee couldn't fix though.

Ironically, I'm a morning person. This way though, I can focus and spend my energy on homework, projects, work, etc in the morning. During nights, I just force myself to go to class, but it wasn't painful, since all of these night courses were courses in my major that I was interested in.

I had one night class from 9:30pm to 11:00pm. I showed up once and dropped the class. I am not a night person, on school nights, I'm in bed by 10:30. So I'd end up near-dozing in the class.
Ah, that's lame.

I am a morning person and last semester (my first semester) I had a psych class (my major) from 5:00-7:45 once a week and I decided to do the same with my psych class this semester as well. It is a large time gap between my 9:00-9:50 class and 5:00 class, but it isn't as awkward and frees up my day (my other option was MWF 1:00-1:50). So far I love it.

Well I had class 6-7:40pm and it was okay. It's definitely much calmer and the professor is energetic. I'm going to take required night classes next semester because I switched majors and the registration for the earlier ones is closed. So, I'm taking classes 6-9 M, 7-9 T, 8-10 W, and 5-7 T >.< and some of the required ones are really early, so I'm going to die but I'm going to have a three day weekend, so I'm happy about that :D

But seriously, it depends on you. Do you not mind coming home really late? Is this class required? etc...

I took Intro to Ceramics, which met one a week, from 5:45-9:05. It was a hands-on art class. However, I had lecture classes all day starting at 11 in the morning, which breaks for lunch and a quick dinner.

Even though it was just Ceramics and not some deeply mentally-challenging material, the timing was exhausting and very frustrating (possibly even more so because it wasn't mentally-challenging and often felt like a complete waste of my time). Oh, and I had no class the next day because I had scheduled all my classes on 3 weekdays.

I would not recommend taking night classes for intensive lecture courses.

I've taken a couple of night classes, and I have to say that I have a love-hate relationship with them. The classes are usually smaller (I had 30 people in my MicroEcon class as oposed to the 100-200 people in morning lectures) But the classes usually meet once or twice a week for around 3 hours so it's hard to remember things and stay motivated. I have another night class next semester, and I'm honestly kind of scared because it's chemistry and I NEED to pay attention in it.

Anyway, I'm sure this is only specific to my school, but it seems like most of the night professors have horrible, horrible accents. I mean they're great at teaching, but it's just hard to understand some of them. I've noticed this is less in daytime professors.
