How are Northeastern's online classes?

Can anyone tell me about your experience at NEU undergraduate online classes? Thank you!

I took an online personal finance class, and honestly, I didn’t enjoy it that much. Each week, we were required to answer a few questions on the discussion forums, respond to each other’s responses, and turn in online homework. Simple enough, but when a course is online, it’s easier to procrastinate and not do any of the work until the last minute. Personally, I’d recommend you to take a class in person, if it is offered, rather than online. In addition, Blackboard was plagued with errors and issues during the semester while I took this course, and oftentimes I could not turn in my homework on time because of these problems. Even the final was screwed up and I had to take it twice. Fortunately, though, I managed an A in the course.

A few of my friends took an online accounting course, and they didn’t understand the material at all. I suppose the professor may have offered office hours for them to attend, but I wouldn’t know–they never went to go see him. However, they also fell prone to the mistake of procrastinating, and they earned much less than desirable grades.

GlassCastle,

Was this a finance course at Northeastern University? If it was, did you fill out a survey at the end of the term telling them about your challenges with the class? Did you use RateMyProfessor to select the professor for this class?

Thank you so much. Your information is well appreciated!

They have surveys (TRACE) for every class you take, and usually I think a decent number of people fill them out. Everyone has access to them on myneu. They are a lot more reliable than ratemyprofessor.

newchimie,
Thank you for the insight. Since I have not been admitted to NEU yet, I do not have access to MyNeu, but I am glad to know that those tools exist. Do you use that tool often, and do you think it has helped you select the best professors?

Sorry, I meant neuchimie.

Lusitano,

Yes, it was a finance course. neuchimie is right–TRACE surveys are taken at the end of each semester for each course you take, but since the personal finance course was a brand new course at the time that I took it, there were no reviews for it at the time.

TRACE surveys definitely play a part in my decision on what classes to take, and they’re definitely more comprehensive and more reliable than ratemyprofessor.

GlassCastle,

It sounds like TRACE is working for you, isn’t it?
