The list of MT schools is very good on this forum, but I was wondering how a school gets listed? We have visited a couple of programs that are not on this list that we thought had very good programs. So I was just wondering what criteria is used for a school to get on the list or be left off. thanks!

I see that you are failrly new to this forum and welcome. I have explained this before but would be happy to do so again.

It is a misconception that the MT schools at the top of this forum somehow represent either “recommended schools” or “best MT schools” or “all the MT schools.” When the MT forum got to become such an active forum, it was an organizational thing to try to group many existing thread discussions about individual schools and put them into their own sub forums. The original 30 or so programs that were chosen were due to the fact that they had existing thread discussions on the MT Forum and then these were moved into the new sub forums on each school so that they could be found more easily. Since that time, new threads on those schools have gone up. If someone posts a thread in the regular MT forum on a school, it is moved into its appropriate sub forum so that it is organized for visitors to this forum.

Since the individual MT school sub forums were originally set up (again, the sub forums were set up AFTER the MT Forum was well underway and there were existing threads on these schools)…sometimes another school has several thread discusssions and so a new subforum is created to group those discussions together.

So, as a general rule of thumb, a sub forum exists if there are discussions/threads on that school enough to warrant it. While not a hard and fast “rule”, that is the basic gist of it.

Meanwhile, there IS a list of all the colleges that have a MT program and it is called the Big List. There is a link to the Big List stickied to the top of the MT Forum so that readers can find the many MT programs that exist. The “list” at the top of this forum that you see is NOT meant to be ALL the MT schools, nor “recommended ones”, nor “best ones.” But these schools have been discussed more often than others on CC generally speaking (exceptions exist but that was the reason behind setting up separate sub forums). What you see at the top of the MT Forum is NOT meant to be a “list” but rather links sub forums that contain existing threads on schools. The true “list” is actually the Big List that the link takes you to.

Thanks for the info! Sorry to make you repeat. Ii makes sense that if enough people start threads on a particular school, you would make a sub forum for it.
