CPSlo seems like a great college from an academic perspective, but they’re also geographically close to one of the West Coast’s few nuclear reactors. I’m curious as to the professional/industrial relationship that the college has with the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. Is it common for the DCNPP to recruit from cpslo? What are the internship/coop opportunities like (Abundant or rare)?

I’m planning on visiting the area and speaking to people about this in person before I make any permanent decisions, but I was none the less hoping for some input from you guys.

Honestly, I’m not an engineering or science major, so I don’t know for sure about the connections, but I have heard about some people from Cal Poly working there. But since we’re so close to it, they give us these forms we can fill out for iodine tablets or something so that if there is a nuclear leak or whatever, we can save or thyroids lol

I hear that PES (the Power Engineering Society, one of the EE clubs around here) takes a tour there every once and a while. I know for a fact that they tour the powerplant in Morro Bay somewhat regularly. PGE also has some sort of software dev office in slo that hires student interns… and… That’s about all I know of offhand. If it comes up, I’ll ask some of my EE friends about it.
