Okay, I heard several versions of how the applicant's folders are made in the admission offices. I heard that they start making a folder under a name as soon as they receive any information (may it be online application, supplement, transcript, SAT Scores...). And I have heard that they only start making a folder when they receive the online application.

If the latter is true, then does that mean that if I send in my transcripts and my SAT scores before I submit my online supplement, does that mean that colleges will just ignore these documents and leave them in the pile??? This seems so inefficient though.

they start with the first part of the application that they receive (whether it is SAT scores or the application itself). I was wondering about this myself, and I sent in my SAT scores to my early school before i sent my online application and everything was received fine.

bump… does anyone else has a more reliable source of answer? My counsellor was scaring me that I have to send in my online apps before he can ever send in transcripts

I work in a college admissions office and basically all I do is file things. The way this office works, once they receive any part of your application, they create a folder for you, it does not necessarily have to be the application itself. We actually have 2 different kinds of folders. If the first thing we receive is something other than the application, then it is one kind of folder. Once the application itself is received, we switch all the information in the first folder to a new, different folder.

But basically, it doesn’t matter what you send first, though it may vary by college.

mistofolis: How would any other method beyond what mrchipmunk describes even be half-logical? Think about it. How much extra work would it be to sort thru an unfiled mess of forms solely because the online app hasn’t been rec’d?

If you ran the office, how would you do it given that your job is to sift through and admit as many as possible? Does your GC think there’s some one-eyed ogre who tosses forms into a huge bonfire only because the item isn’t matched w/an online applicant’s file?
