I was thinking about taking Math 115 next semester. Is it really hard to get an A in that class? What do most people do for it?

All the calc courses are weeder courses. Pretty difficult to get an A. Study a lot, do study groups and practice problems [i.e. solid grasp of material and application].

Average in 115/116 is B-
Average in 215/216 is B

So, it doesn’t really matter how good you are at math. It only matters how you do compared to everyone else. If your class is very very smart, it just means you need to be better than the best to pull of an “A”.

I think the first exam is to see how smart the class is. If averages or “too high” expect the hardest 2nd and 3rd exams of your life. I think the average for calc 1 final this year was 49.2…I’m guessing they did this cuz the first exam the average was 81%.

they easy jawn

It’s different than any other math class than you have probably taken before. It’s the same material, but just more applied. Lots of story problems, applications, and explaining why your answer is correct in words.

That being said, work hard, realize that they are weeder courses, and do the best that you can. :D

Let’s be honest here, the average person in Math 115/116 is awful at math. A Math 115 class is never going to be smart. It’s always going to be about the same.

Given, I’ve only heard bad things about the intro Calc classes here. I recommend you take Calc elsewhere. They will likely have night classes for Calc at WCC, and you can get there from the #3 bus which runs by North Campus.
