How are the Dorms at MIT? More Specifically, Simmons Hall?

Hi, I'm a rising high school senior going to a summer program at MIT for 6 weeks. They told us we will be staying in Simmon's Hall. What are the dorms there like?

-Are there closets?
-Do you know if they clean the bathroom in the summer? Should I bring cleaning supplies? Do they replace toilet paper?
-Is there carpet? Should I bring a rug?

How are the bathrooms?
What's it like living in the sponge/lego brick? How are the dorms? Are they clean? Are the homey? Are the beds comfy?

How's the food? We eat dinner there.

Do you like Simmon's Hall?

I'm just really curious since it will be my home for 6 weeks. If you know any other info or have anything to share feel free to comment. It will be very appreciated.

I don’t know but if there are not closets then there will probably be dressers or at least drawers of some sort.

Yes, no, and yes.

No. Yes if you want to lug it with you; there are also stores in Boston and Cambridge where you can buy a rug, among other things you might want to buy.

Bathroom-like. They have toilets and sinks and showers. Everything you could want from a bathroom, really. Some rooms have their own bathrooms or share with one other room. I don’t know if that’s the normal state of things.

It’s just one dorm.

I think Simmons is one of the cleaner dorms at MIT. So probably yes. My standards might be really low from living in Random.

Institute mattresses are not comfy. At least I have never thought so. You should bring a mattress pad (or two).

Pretty darn good, though I’ve only walked through the dining hall, and only once. :p

Yeah! It’s fancy and it’s strange. It feels like being inside a cement slug who is going about its own business while you just happen to be living inside of it. (I haven’t lived there, just visited.)

Simmons is unusual having private bathrooms. Unless there’s been a recent change, cleaning staff don’t often clean your bathroom (because that would involve invading your room). That said, bathrooms also don’t get dirty as quickly because it’s in use by 1-3 people rather than, say, 7-15

Followup now that I’ve talked to Simmons people:

They appear to only clean at the end of summer and during IAP (in January).

Ahhhh I’m so sorry Piper is totally right. The private bathrooms you’ll have to clean yourself.
