I visited but didn't get to see a dorm room. How are they, and compared to other schools dorms throughout the nation?

well, i visited my friend at West Lagunita. The dorms are rather small. Two people are expected to sleep in a room designed for one.

West Lag dorms are not represenative of dorms as a whole. Most people living with a roommate are in rooms desgined for 2 people. However, the dorms are on the whole nothing special in terms of amneities; however one benefit I perceved was their small size compared to many dorms at other colleges.

Do not take West Lag to be typical; only the unluckiest of freshmen live there (and only freshmen get the tiny rooms, never upperclassmen). In general, the dorms are reasonably nice. Nothing too special in terms of physical facilities; what makes them really great is the sense of community you get due to their small size and enthusiastic staff.

I stayed at an "average" freshman dorm for volleyball camp, and it was basically a white rectangle with two beds, two desks, two dressers, and not much room for anything else. It worked fine though, and was about the same in niceness as the one I stayed in at Cornell for camp. I've also stayed at the University of Minnesota and Columbia University, and didn't like those as much (although at Columbia there was one bathroom for every two rooms, which I liked a lot more than the community bathrooms!). I do remember that while at Stanford, we would walk past this AMAZING dorm every day, but the super campers got to stay there, not us!

Even though I live in west lag....the dorms are above average; I don’t mind the tiny space bc you get used to it; the plus side is that we have our own sink, a closed community, and it is a quieter place to study/live.

Other dorms I have seen including Columbia, MIT, duke, Harvard....some had no heaters/ac, some had hardwood floors (ouch), etc.

volleysnap, you probably lived in Wilbur; I think most athletic camps are there. Wilbur dorms are pretty nice, if you ask me--I voluntarily chose to live there this year (not that I had too many options, but still). You'd be surprised how much you can fit in there if you're creative (lofting/bunking beds, etc). And the really nice dorm was probably Toyon; I remember that being overrun with Supercamp kids. It's all sophomores, very nice two-room triples.

yeah it was wilbur-it did work just fine, except for the no air conditioning thing :). i think i'll be bringing a fan if i do end up there... what's the temperature like in the winter Sly Si?
