how are the dorms?

ok...so I have to send my dorm & all the question sheet by 6/15...
I was thinking about asking for all-girls dorm (I forgot the name) since I heard it's really clean...
does anybody know any prejudices or whatever about all-girls dorm?
how are the dorms in general at Tufts?
thanks for your help~

I visited two of the uphill dorms on my overnight (Houston and Miller), and i can't say their is anything to really complain about. The beds can either be bunk beds, or they can be seperated and both be on a normal level. If the beds are made into bunk beds, the rooms feel large enough, easily fitting a couch, the two dressers and the two standard desks. However in rooms where they arent bunk beds, they room feels a little crowded. The rooms come with closets as well. You can get the floor plans on the tufts residence site. I can get that for you if you need. Anyways, the biggest suprise I had with my overnight was the openness over alcohol; No one hid their stash at all. A couple rooms had their alcohol visible when standing in the doorway. My host kept his in his fridge. Not that the students were out of control (no one was walking around with alcohol visible), but it certainly wasn't something the kids were ashamed of. The food was also pretty good, easily the best cafeteria food I have ever had.

Here is the floor plan link: http://ase.tufts.edu/reslife/TOP/residence_halls.html

I signed up for Richardson (all female). Heard it was cleaner and it has a good location; also for other reasons that I discussed with my guidance counselor and older friends (who are now in college). And I applied to schools like Wellesley and Barnard so I guess I can't have much of an argument against all-girl dorms.

Any thoughts on Richardson though?

Really nice, large rooms.

I stayed in Richardson over the summer and I loved it. You can't beat the location, and the rooms are big and just really nice.

And in general, the dorms are nice.

Oooh. "Nice rooms" is something I like to hear. ;)

As for Richardson, I sometimes worry about girls getting catty and stuff (horror stories from my school's alumnae) but I based my choice on the fact that Richardson has a good location, its own laundry area, kitchen, clean rooms, etc. I suppose the only real worrying thing is that Tufts uses Richardson to house others students during breaks... that would mean having to move my stuff in and out often. I'm an international student so it's quite concerning that I'll have to find storage areas every five months. But I really don't think I'll regret signing up for it. :)

Hrm... it just hit me. Some colleges make you take your stuff out during breaks anyway. Is Tufts one of those places?

Tufts is only that place for one dorm: Stratton Hall which is not available for freshman. Otherwise you can leave all of your things in the dorm over breaks.

Actually, Stratton, Richardson and Metcalf are all winter housing dorms. You can lock stuff in your closet, so it's not like you have to completely move out. Freshmen don't live in Stratton though.
