How are the percentiles calculated?

I was just wondering...
Are the subject test percentiles calculated on your raw score, or scaled?
For example, if two candidates got 800 on maths IIC, and they had raw scores of say, 46, and 49, would they still have the same percentile rank or would there be a difference?

Percentiles are based on scaled scores. Raw scores, by themselves, don't provide much meaningful information, except, of course, to the cc'ers who want to cancel and retake if they get one or two wrong.

Two students with an 800 are both in the same percentile. The difference in their raw score is not significant. Percentiles help put that in perspective. For example, if a 770 and an 800 are both in the 99th percentile, the score difference is also not significant.
