before you call me a philistine, I'd like to say that I've always wanted to attend Harvard, Columbia, or UPenn

with that out of the way, I did not apply to any of them because, as my credentials listed in the other thread may attest to, my chances @ those 3 were about as favorable as the knicks winning the championship this season (sorry knick fans :D)

My college counselor has said that if I do well in my freshman year of college, I can apply to transfer into other colleges

however, I noticed on collegeboard that almost all colleges require transfer applicants to submit their high school transcripts and standardized test scores as well(I assuming, the SATs? gasps)

which means a couple of things
1. I'll have to take the dreadful SATs again, not that my current SATs arnt good(they are, but only imo) but because I'd want to make the 75th percentile at some of those schools--aka go for that ever-elusive 2400 (:D wish me luck)

if my high school transcript wasnt good enough to grant me a chance at freshman admissions, then I dont see how a transcript detailing one year of college can help my chances if they're going to see my high school transcript anyway

not to mention transfer applicants have abysmal success rates, esp @ places like Harvard

the other thing I thought of was that, I'd guess that the number of transfers Harvard can accept is commensurate with the number of current Harvard students who would want to leave

and given that Harvard and some of these other schools have 95% retention rates @ the lowest, I dont like my chances

P.S. does going to a respectable school for Freshman year help your chances? think UMichigan, if thats respectable in your eyes
