How are you affording this school?

Is anyone here going to UIUC with no scholarships and no grants (or very very little of either or)? If so, how are you going to afford it? Take out a ton of loans? For my first year, I am basically paying $31,000 for tuition, fees, and r&b. That’s without the other expenses, which leads me to a total of $34,000.

Some tips I’ve gotten: get an apartment and reduce the cost of living. Any idea how much lower a lease will get me to?
Internships: pay off housing with the income?
School year internships?
Part time jobs?
Federal work study? (Did not get this on my award letter).

Also, my parents will be able to pay about $5k-8k towards my schooling per year. UIUC is my dream school but I think funds are going to cut that short. I also really, really do not want to go to CC.

Thanks for the help

Hey, I’m also not getting any financial aid from UIUC.

You can’t get an apartment freshman year, you need to live in either university housing or private housing your first year.

You probably won’t get an internship until your junior or senior year, you need some experience.

You could definitely get a job while on campus to earn some extra money.

I’m no expert but I think you’re going to have to take out a loan (which is what I’ll probably be doing). My parents can contribute a significant amount but the rest will probably be loans.

What’s wrong with a community college? Your first 2 years of classes are all the same,( community college or university). I’d even argue the quality of instruction is the same if not better than a large university; No TA’s, small classes, greater professor-student interaction, the list goes on. Plus its cheap!!! Something you should seriously consider if you are hard up for money.
