How are you guys studying for APES?

What material do you recommend I review for the FRQs? They seem quite tough to be honest...

I am reading my prep books over and over. The free response questions actually seem pretty easy. There are so many different things that you could write on each one. Look at some samples. They are really not that hard.

My AP Bio teacher is teaching the class in my senior year so he might order tests for me :)

Plus I’m reading Smartypants over and over and will be doing FRQs. I can’t find any official practice exam for this test.

Well, first of all, the social science part of APES (i.e., environmentally friendly economic policy) is fluid knowledge. Those are pretty big concepts, and you should know the concepts without much trouble. It’s just an understanding of the politics, which is a lot easier than it at first may seem. I recommend reviewing the science portions of the class. Last year, the FRQs required a knowledge of methane gas, the ozone layer, CFCs, and the like. I honestly wrote almost nothing for 2/4 FRQs (and didn’t feel like I did well on the multiple choice) and got a four on the exam. The FRQs can be intimidating, but I got the impression that points were easy to earn as long as you wrote coherently.

applicannot, do we need to know very many environmental laws and such?

When should you start studying for this exam? And does anyone have any spare exams with answers? Thanks in advance.

PunjabX, the guy who made the sticked thread about self-studying studied APES 4 hours the night before the test and got a 5.

But I suggest two weeks minimum because you might have other APs as well to study for.

There were definitely some environmental laws tested. However, it’s more useful to have a fluid knowledge of them (a gist of what did what) rather than to memorize them. There weren’t that many questions on environmental laws, but it helps to know about the EPA and the like. I have to agree with MrWheezy. Some review will definitely be beneficial, but in all, it’s not a particularly difficult test (very easy if you’re a good student). I did not even read the textbook (I just took the tests and did well on them) and I got a 4 on the exam.

OMG, I need to start reviewing…
Just kidding :)
